the current attitude towards benefits being supposedly soft is down to propoganda. what we have is the victim being blamed. someone loses their job they arent sympathised with anymore. they are called a scrounger and given a hard time.
Is this the really the advisers fault though? If every adviser next week let everyone off the hook for doing nothing, would you perceive this as a good thing or a bad thing? Where do you draw the line?
It is not the advisers responsibility to do what it takes to keep a stream of income, however small that is. That is down to the job seeker and in this case, would need to comply with what needs to be done. Do what you need to do and keep your income, it's not hard, really.
If the job seeker can't follow a few, what I would consider, pretty lax rules, then no, I don't feel bad for them, people are responsible for themselves, and their kids should they have them, and anyone who refuses to do what they need to do to keep them clothed and fed, I would consider incredibly selfish. I would feel bad for the kids, of course, but the advisers fault? In a majority of cases, no. They have rules to follow, just like any other person in whatever line of work they work in.
Just to put things in to perspective, for the few rules people have to stick to here in the UK, some people in the world have to steal in very hostile environments to feed their kids and families, possibly even kill, who knows. Some people don't know how easy they've got it sometimes.Professional Data Monkey

the adviser makes the decision to refer for sanction. so they play a part. an adviser should ideally endeavour to avoid sanction whenever possible. when unavoidable then fair enough but if they dont care about what happens as result then thats not a very nice person. i think sometimes they go into robot mode and cut off their feelings for the sake of their sanity. the word jobsworth is something that sadly fits alot of them.
I'm afraid we will have to agree to disagree and let this thread get back on track.
This will be my last post here, apologies AP007.So yeah lets get back to the topic shall we?Professional Data Monkey

No, you're going to have to work harder than that here to hide from what you do & say.
You can't use you're feeding your child to justify it, because you could justify anything with that.
