Npower Billing Help
Options
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can help with how Npower are billing me.
Me and my girlfriend live in a small flat that we moved into last August (1st property) and the landlords supplier was Npower, we set up an account to pay for the Electric in the property and Npower set a monthly direct debit as £45(rising to £46 this year).
As we are moving out of the property next month I contacted Npower to ask about what to do when I move and I had noticed that all the billing from my DD had gone into a lump sum credit.
I challenged Npower on this and they said because we had a complex meter system they hadn't worked out what we should be paying.
The last thing I want to do is be stung because we haven't paid enough.
I'm a bit lost with what to do as i'm not sure if we have paid too little or too much either we aren't getting an answer from Npower.
Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Do you have your opening reads? If not telephone npower and ask for them. You can then yourself calculate how much you have used and how much it costs.0

Hello olim911
Do you know what contractual rates you were given by nPower? If you actually entered into a contract with them then you should have been given the rates.
You will have been given a standing charge and a unit rate. If you have them then you can work out from there what your bills should be.
nPower work on something called estimated billing, how this works is that they estimate your usage based on a number of factors (type of meter, location, size of house etc.) so they will have set up the £45 a month based on estimates.
There is no such thing as a 'complex' meter, ask them to explain what they mean by that and let us know what they say.

You should have had a bill by now.
I suggest you raise a formal complaint

You will always get a final beill when you leave a prroperty.
Whether you owe or are owed an amount will depend on how much you used and how much you have paid to date.
nPower should be able to explain and/or send you your tariff details immediately so you can work it out yourself if necessary0 -
Thank you for all your replies.
I have just spoken to Nower again and they have said we should have received a paper bill before now and apologised for this.
They still were not able to tell me the current balance based on our usage and said they would send out a manual bill, we are about 90% sure based on the phone conversation that we have been underpaying and we can now expect a massive bill0 -
It sounds like you have an all electric flat with 2 meters one standard and one off peak. If you post the opening reads for both and your current reading we could do a fag packet calc for you.
£46 was never going to cover you in an all electric flat0 -

Me and my girlfriend are devasted to find we now owe them £663.86.
We recieved two letters today one still stated that they can't current send a bill the other was a statement of usage.
Gutted with this, feeling very stupid for thinking £46 would cover things.
Would have much rather paid more in DD every month knowing I was actually paying what I should be.0
