Seems I am not alone with B/Gas d/debit price hike

Hi everyone just got my B/Gas electric statement to day andwe now have to find and extra 37 quid a month (from £50 to 87)
I rang up B/Gas and told the gentleman on the phone that we cannot afford to pay that much of an increase all he said was well we can drop it to £80 well I was doing cartwheels around the room at such a dramatic drop and was thanking him unconditionally and offering to send his xmas cards forever and have his babies (yes I am being sarcastic)
I then asked him if i paid my bill in full then how much would the bill go to in regard to my direct debits he told me £58 yippee I cried so even if I clear my arrears you still want me to pay another £8 on top oh thank you all the extra money I had lying about the house was becoming a burden I had know idea what to do with it and you hiking my monthly costs up by £37 has put paid to that problem
So fellow money savers (sob you lucky people)
have a look at my bill and see if you can offer advise on how I can go about asking for a more suitable payment direct debit wise and how I can stop the dreaded estimated bills (funny how they never estimate low)

did you give a meter read? Find a cheaper supplier have a look at an online tariff via a cashback broker. £58 must be based on usage so that's fair start to get comparative quotes.you should save at least the £8 they have put it up by by shopping around.

If you are using more than you are paying for at the moment I'm not sure what you expect them to do - perhaps cut your direct debit for you so you get further into debt?

If you are not on it already, you should either switch to BG's online tariff (click3) which is slightly cheaper or as wills34 suggested consider searching for another provider.

How do you get on to Click Energy 3? I am on Click Energy 2 now. Is it automatic or do you have to contact them to switch?

I wouldn't see why you'd want to switch, it seems to be the same as click 2. There must surely be a difference, but I haven't found what it is yet. There is not guarantee the difference would be in your favour though.

British Gas tried to do the same thing to us. When we phoned up to complain they actually said they'd overestimated everyone's projected usage and a lot of people were calling them to complain. In the end they backed down and didn't put our dd up.
