According to Haynes, on the 1.8 you simply align the timing marks on the cams with the pips in the top cover, set TDC at the crank, and slip the belt on, then fiddle with the tensioner, and do the 2 turns then check + tension routine.

This is the thing though, I read the new belt won't fit properly, so it was left between notches on the front most cam wheel. Trying to turn the cam wheel to fit OR pushing down on the belt in the centre would make it fit, BUT it could be out by one notch. Not until the engine was turned would the belt drop into the correct position.
I don't remember reading about turning the engine by hand before tensioning, but that'd certainly make more sense than starting it.

The fact is (and going back to OP), it's possible and very easy to misalign the belt on Z18XE. I reckon if it were out my one notch on a cam wheel, it'd run but wouldn't sound too happy.

That's basically it, No Belt half on or off ;)

A Z18XE is no different to muck up then any other Cambelt if you don't have half a clue..

Strider590 is not talking from experience, he has read some rubbish posted on the net somewhere and confirmed that he is a blithering idiot for believing that rubbish.

OP asked a question, I replied with an answer relevant to that, whether anyone agrees with that or not, it's still relevant to the OP.

There's no reason at all for you to get your ar5e in a sling over it. If you want to troll, I can't point you out to another and you play with eachother instead.

Not exactly relevant to the OP, when what you have posted is total nonsense.

I wouldn't have believed it (and I'm not actually saying I do) if I had not read it. It's just something I read and considered when making the decision to get someone else to do my cambelt.
I felt it worth a mention, but what seems apparent is that only small parts of my posts are being read and taken out of context for the purpose of derailing this thread.......

That's the problem with relying on the internet for information, it's like a massive game of Chinese whispers.

Purchased a new cam belt kit and water pump last week and took car (Astra H Mk5 1.8 2004) into garage to have it fitted.

Why did you supply parts for a garage to fit, surly the garage would only fit parts they supplied or they would not be able to give any warranty.

You may of been given incorrect parts then instructed the garage to fit them....who would be at fault here? Not the garage I bet.

I'm sure I read somewhere, that's cows jump over the moon.

Your decision to pass on info that you was not sure was correct.

    Was indeed, a poor one.
