BT routed internet & phone cables internally through our building...

Hello,

bit of an odd situation here. Recently taken on the rent of an industrial unit, and have been having the elecs stripped ready to redo. the neighbouring unit contact us and say that their phone & internet has gone down, and it looks like the cables run internally through our building and we have taken them out.

We have spoken to the people who own the building who say that they had no idea about this and certainly wouldn't have given permission (there have been conflicts between the two owners in the past) as as far as they are concerned, if BT want to route cable through their building then they will charge them rent and hosting fees!

I'm obviously worried that BT are going to charge me for this, even though I had no idea they were there and the company who own it didn't know it was there...

What I am asking is, are BT able to route cables through private property without any permission and then expect them to be kept in good condition even though they are trespassing?

May have been done when the unit was originally built as easier to install that way. Surprised there isnt something advising of this.

I know my Parents terraced house has there electricity supply coming into cellar, with then a cable going through to the neighbours (this is before the meter) and has Electric board warning tags and everything all over it..

BT must have had permission to enter at some point, otherwise how would they have fitted the cabling? I can't see them breaking into the unit :D

Were the 2 units built as such, or were they originally one and have been split into 2?

Are the current owners the original owners? If not it could have been done before they bought the unit, as StuC75 says, when it was first built.
