Shock Electricity Bill, Am I liable?

Options
I've been in my property for 2 half years and pay all my bills direct to the utilities, except for Electricity which I thought was covered in a service charge I pay. I've never any letters from any elec companies and I've never seen a bill. The landlord said he had a direct debit coming out of his bank that he couldn't account for and has ONLY JUST realised it is a charge for MY electricity. He says I am now liable for the usage for the last 2.5 years. I accept that I have to pay future charges, but as this was a mistake on the part of the landlord, am I in my rights to refuse having to pay the past charges? Help!

No you are not. You used it why should you not pay for it? Doesn't matter whose mistake it was. Sorry if thats not the answer you want to hear.

    Cheers

If your STA doesn't specify otherwise, then yes you are liable.
