  • I'd probably deflate them and send them without a stamp in the post.

In my last house i gave up fixing the fence when the kid used it as a goal, i just left it broken.
It must have been 2/3yrs when the people decided to move and the guy knocked one day to say they had someone coming to view and didn't want them to see the fence. So could i take the good panels out from the other side of my garden and replace them with the broken ones. 'Cos it wouldn't make any difference to me which side was broken.
I think the second word i told him was off !

Maybe you should go on a go-slow with the balls - if he asks for them back, say yes but it isn't convenient right now because you are busy - he can have them back if he comes back at a particular time (say 8pm on a Sunday) when you are free. That way you aren't refusing to give back the balls, but it cuts down the number of times they can come over.

This is what I do to a large extent. I let a few balls gather in my garden and just line them up alongside my fence. Then, around once a week, I drop them over the fence into my neighbour's garden (ensuring they land in a flower bed!).

I think this adds a little bit of guilt to my neighbours as they see several balls being thrown back in one go. I always ensure that they are around when I do this.

The children next door have now started to apologise for balls landing in my garden.

No legal obligation to hand them unprompted. My neighbor's kids sometimes kick balls into my garden. It scares the cat and damages my plants so I simply hold onto them until they ask.

They haven't asked for over a year now. Their rate of fire is now less than a ball a month. They're running out of ammo!

BTW, the poster who mentioned airgun pellets - thats an offence under the firearms act.

Actually I must confess, most of them are smaller balls & not footballs.
This time, but that's unusual, normally it's nearly all footballs.
I had a gardening day today & found more balls, 45 in total now.
I think the best thing I can do is deliver them to the police station & they can collect them from there.

    Good idea Mrs E.

How are the kids next door occupying themselves now that you have all their footballs? Is it nice and quiet?
