Long term business use? Did you just pluck that from the air?
I go on what the OP has actually written, not your continued conjecture.0 -

You mean that they would go from selling things on eBay, to 3D design projects?
Sorry, help me here...give me a scenario.
Why and how do you think that this specification be unsuitable after a few months?0 -
Seems that you are rather labouring the point.
But, I and many other who have purchased, know that the machines come in as new condition, being barely touched. Often with the original plastic stuck on in places.
I think the OP will no quite quickly if it is 'not up to the job'.
Most 'Techies' would know that you simply don't need the kind of processing power that you are desperately trying to convince the OP they might need.
Why is it that I can do all this on my old Dual Core Celeron processor? Running Windows 7 on 2GB of RAM?
How is it possible that I succeeded where you failed?
Perhaps you purchased a single core Celeron with inadequate RAM....who knows?
You still haven't explained your comment in post #10. Seems like you are the kind of person who hits and runs.
How about clarifying your statement instead of slinging mud and hoping that it sticks?
I tell you what, you run your little business with your laptop, and let the OP decide what they want to get, rather than trying to bully them to get a low spec, second hand, refurbished laptop.
There is no guarantee with refurbs that mechanics are new. They don't replace components that don't need replacing. Just like the Sony factory refurb PS3 that I got, and it's hard drive only lasted 10 months.
I've had 2 different dual core Celerons, which is why I won't go for one again.
You still haven't said what you didn't understand about my post???0 -

Again you are making assumptions as to the OP's business.
It's only when more programs are added that you find out if you have exceeded your laptops limitations. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to run a business with a very slow computer.0 -

Thank you, this is exactly what i was trying to point out. @hereagain since you have stated a few times that your posts are based on what the OP has stated.
so are mine. and as others has stated. if the OP wants to run his Business with a decent performing computer the OP will need a good CPU processor which the I3 (minimum) beats hand down.
the browsers don't eat as much CPU power and for all we know the OPs business may need much more processor power which simply the I3 will be able to offer.
Just like you i and others have offered the OP a choice to the others0 -

Little business? Retired at 26. How about you?
As to your poor luck with refurbs, don't buy carp?
Nothing will have been replaced on the Toshiba, as there is and was nothing wrong with it in the first place.
Your post doesn't make any sense. If it does to anyone else reading this thread I would be happy to listen to their explanation. But I rather believe that they have no idea as to what you were on about in post #10 either.0 -

I haven't made any assumptions, I have based my recommendations on the words of the OP, whilst Jamie and yourself have resorted to conjecture and mudslinging.
As to you offering a choice, I haven't see it? Where is it? I see only conjecture, but no actual good value recommendation.0 -

Which programs would these be then? More programs than the OP has mentioned? More conjecture?
The fact is, that you made a bad choice for your business.
Mine and the OP business likely doesn't need the same processing power as you, apparently.0 -

I need MS Word and Excel, social media, and internet - nothing flashy.
If the op comes back, maybe they'll clarify exactly what's wrong with the machine, a high percentage of "given up the ghost" threads, turn out to be software problems.
Apart from possibly cluttered/bloated social media, those tasks wouldn't trouble a 486!!
