Can I ask why you are saying this?

Because it appears to be a thread that is aimed at winding people up. A prime example of a trolling thread.
  • Right, I am sorry if my post is winding up people, I am a genuine person looking for genuine answers and thought I would find them on here and was obviously mistaken.
I apologise if my post has offended anyone, I will go and get advice from somewhere else.
Would someone advise me at least how to delete my thread, I wouldn't want to upset anymore people!

For the calculator you have to pretend you are already living together and so put him as a partner and state his earnings.

You won't get any better advice. You're earning too much to get help with rent. Fill in the calculator as Gwylim says to prove it to yourself.

Why would anyone earning £35K think that they were entitled to benefits????

Of course you can, it is because you have no previous posts, coupled with the fact that your light keeps going out every few posts like you are maybe logging in to another account? Then expecting help financially when you earn more than the average.

Hi everyone, new to this forum and looking for some answers I cannot find anywhere else.

My boyfriend and I are thinking about moving in together.
The problem is that I work full time (earning 35k) but he is self employed and claiming Work Tax Credit, receiving full housing benefits as well as Council Tax exemption.
What I would like to know is would he lose all his benefits if we were to move in together? Would I then be entitled to housing benefits myself to help pay for a higher rent?
Is there anyone out there who is / has been in a similar situation and can advise me?

    Any help greatly appreciated :)

Yes he would lose working tax credit as your joint household income would be used to see if the household is entitled to it. £35k is too high even if he is earning very little on top.

His current housing benefit he will lose as he will no longer be renting his house ditto council tax help. As a couple, if you will be renting together rather than paying a mortgage, whether you get housing benefit/council tax help as a couple depends on how much the rent/council tax is, how many kids you have, what your joint income is, etc.

Any child tax credit that you currently get may be affected if his earnings are more than minimal.

The calculator others have mentioned will tell you- just enter the details as if he has already moved in as others have said. It won't tell you 'your' benefits and 'his' benefits as there will only be the one 'household' - it will tell you what you get as a couple.
