FRAUDULENT COMPANY-beware and advice needed

Hi all

I recently ordered a wig for my aunty as her son got married yesterday, and through poor health, she has lost her hair. I'm unsure if I'm allowed to name the company, if I am I will!!!!

After ordering it for her through PayPal, I found very worrying reviews. The reviews were all saying pretty much the same thing; the wig was a different style and colour to what was ordered (strangely always red), the company admit they are Hong Kong based AFTER you purchase even though they pose to be from the UK.

The reviews are true! My wig arrived and it was a different style and colour, hair falling out, cheap quality, and just plain awful, totally unwearable.

I contacted them and like all the reviews, they offered me to keep the wig and get a 40% refund. When I refused, they ended live chat. I have now opened a dispute with PayPal, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed (although some reviews said strangely PayPal sided with the company, stating the wig was a as described, even though they had not asked the person for a picture of the wig received).

There are hundreds of bad reviews as soon as you put their name into google, and they are paying to advertise in the top part of google too, so many people can fall into their trap as I did.

My question is, who can I complain to to stop this company, and hopefully help others in the future from being ripped off?. Google? Trading standards (maybe not if Hong Kong based)?

Excellent. The company is wigshow.co.uk. I believe they also trade under halo wigs, and a couple others. S please beware, they are preying on vulnerable people who have lost their hair through chemo, alopecia or other sad reasons. Despicable. I really want to report this company to get them stopped but just don't know who to

I have already complained to PayPal, so hopefully will get my money back.

However, I want to report the company so that this doesn't happen to another vulnerable person. By just worrying about my own refund, this company will continue to prey on vulnerable people. I want to try and stop them.

Any ideas who I can report them to to try and stop them?

How about The Hong Kong Consumer Council?

    Their mission statement starts with:

Why do people not review a company 1st?

A quick look at the site... Less that 1 min. Revealed that it has NO bricks and motor address listed.... It has NO landline listed....
Only contact details are a contact us form....

These on there own are enough to set alarm bells ringing.

never ever buy anything of a site without checking...

Dalesrider, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but doesn't really help me right now. Don't you think I'm kicking myself enough right now. Talk about rub salt in the wounds.

I had numerous conversations with them asking if they were uk based, etc, and they lied. I may get a refund yet, but I'm thinking about others in the future, and would like to try and get the word out. Shoot a girl for trying to help others eh

Well, you obviously didn't look hard enough. Admittedly they've hidden it away in the FAQs :p but it's Unit 2502, 25/F, Tower 2, Enterprise Square Phase 19 Sheung Yuet Road, Kowloon Bay.

Mind you they do say the company is based in the UK but sneakily forget to say where abouts.

Of course the address on the Domain Registration is completely different. It's in Shanghai. :)

Unfortunately it's a paint factory. :rotfl:

OP, 99.9% of Chinese websites exist to rip off people in the West. This one is no exception. If you want to make other people aware of this shyster company get a website reputation browser add-on like Webutation or Web of Trust. You can then rate and comment on sites like Wigshow (as well as the decent sites you like).

Nobody's rubbing salt in the wounds as such, just helping you avoid this problem in the future. The internet is worldwide, we cannot impose our standards on overseas companies, so we need to double check a company before giving them money.

Finally remember anybody can buy a url ending .co.uk. Please don't assume that this means a co is based in the UK.
