High Mileage BMW (Would you buy)?
Comments

It'd be a sad day when I keep up with the Jones'.
I buy cars for cash and owe nothing to no-one.
I drive 25k miles a year and run them into the ground... then they are in the auction and I buy something else.
Neither a badge snob nor a year snob, so long as my house is in order.
My next car will be a Merc, I haven't had one of those.
Just for clarification Apples, I'm not having a go because you drive an older car (i'm not a snob in any way at all), it was more that you appeared in this thread to be slightly 'elitist' about being a BMW driver.
Interesting that you claim to not be a badge snob, but you are going for a Merc next time, not a Honda, for example. And that my son, is how to waft a towel!0 -
Prior to this a Lexus is220d, an Accord, an A4 and a C class were all on my list.
I wanted a powerful car, the Lexus had great trim but unnaturally slow, the accord seemed to lack something I couldn't put my finger on and both the Audi and Merc were compared to the 3.0 flat 6 Diesel of the BMW.
Try to find a bad review of it.
I decided that rather than buy a car which is compared to something else, why not buy the car the others are compared to?
Just because I drive one it doesn't mean other BMW's don't cut me up
I really don't care what badge is on the front, as long enjoy driving it, and it isn't French. :-)
I've really got no idea where your elitist comment came from.0 -
I do the same, buy a cheap car with a mega spec and lots of options, and run it until it breaks.
Currently in a 2001 Rover 75, absolutely top spec with the BMW diesel lump. Cruise, auto everything, Harman Kardon audio etc. £600 with tax and test.
High miles, middling spec and not a brilliant price - unless you do need the car I'd leave it.0 -

High Miles Yes, Spec is fine by me, but not a brilliant price?
I honestly could not find any other 318d ES Estates in the country for £6500.00
I am interested in the fact you think I have overpaid, maybe I am looking in the wrong places but would be interested in other examples of this age at less to see if I have made a mistake.
The 318 was ideal for me in that it is very low tax (£30) and insurance <£200 a year, and the dog will be on the interior at times so did not want leather etc.Over 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
I missed the Estate part - that seems to add some value, my apologies.
As long as you're happy, that's what counts. Seems a good deal on an estate.0 -

Yeah I know its not everyones cup of Tea
For me its the £30 Tax (Hate even paying that), my other car is a 870cc Fiat 500c Twinair so £0 Road Tax,
And as most of my Work trips are long distance motorway the 318d returns about 70mpg, (Which is even batter than the 500c), I can get an average 63mpg out of that on a trip to London down the M1 if I drive it like a snail.
Maybe its the MSEr in me, but I really hate paying anymore for tax (Even if its such a small amount in the great scheme of things), and as in my job I get limited Fuel expenses (£55 a day no matter how far I drive) and some days are 300 miles, I need to have economy or I end up out of pocket very easily.
But I do appreciate everyones comments, and I will update the thread in future on the outcome, Bargain or DisasterOver 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
Nice buy, we have a Mondeo ST TDCI which has 150k on the clock. Still going great, just sounds like a transit though0

I have a 318ci and it is knocking on the door of 190,000 miles. It feels and drives like a car that has done 19,000.0
