How do I choose ISP at new home?

Hiya,
We are with virgin at the moment cos the hubby works from work sometimes and we need a fast connection so we chose the fibre optic broadband.
However, this summer we are due to move house? What is the best way to choose a new internet provider? I have phoned Virgin and, because I am moving to a new estate, they have said they are no doing fibre optic broadband there and they have no plans in the immediate future to install it. So I need a new provider? But I don't want to sign up with someone and then find out it's not fast enough and go thru the faff or ending that contract and having to find a better one? Is there an easy way of working out who can provide the fastest?
The current owners are with BT and they are retired and like to potter about on the internet. They say it's fine for them but it might or might not be fast enough for the hubby.

Then you'll need an FTTC service (if it's available) if ADSL is not fast enough.
Check out the available LLU providers on www.samknows.com with an exchange search. The number checkers on the relevant sites wil give you an idea of the likely ADSL and FTTC speeds.
Remember that you'll be paying VM an ETC if you are still in minimum term when you cancel. No free lunch, and no free laptop

check out the samknows website this will show what is available.
BT's FTTC will hopefully be available - I have recently taken out infinity 2 and get 75mb Download and 15mb upload so this ought to be plenty fast..
The BT site usually gives a speed indication of what you should receive.. if you do sign up make a note of this..0
