Meh, I pay mine 12.50, seems a lot to me! She brings her own things though. We only have 2.5 hours every other week though to keep the costs down.

My sister can't keep a cleaner which makes me very sad as she really needs it, she is a single mum and they keep quitting because they place is to messy!! That's why she needs a cleaner! Its not like its terrible, just a some toys on the floor etc, although I do admit her kitchen really needs de-cluttering.

They leave because of toys! I've spent much of my cleaning career dodging toys. Tbh, it does take a lot longer if the client wants the floor / surfaces cleaned under the toys.. The client has to understand the extra time taken. Tell your sister not to despair, the right person is there somewhere.

    What's the problem??

I came across his thread after googling this very question!
    Info still valid.

And the older posts give a good reflection on price changes.
    Thank you.

Any idea what the rate would be in East Sussex/ Kent? (Robertsbridge/Staplehurst area)
Mum's thinking of getting either cleaner or housekeeper.

I pay £8/hr in West Sussex. This is a subsidised rate to a not for profit that runs local old persons care homes etc. I am disabled so get help from local authority. I believe they charge £12 without subsidy . I am unimpressed as I think the women who clean are on minimum wage. Independent locals seem to be about £10.

Thanks Pollycat, you beat me to it. Did my usual thing of reading the first page without checking the dates.
Why do people dredge up posts from years ago, particularly with regard to wages - totally irrelevant.

I can sort-of understand it if someone wants to ask a question and finds an appropriate thread, albeit an old one and tags their post on to the end of that.

I just can't understand why someone would want to answer a question asked almost 11 years ago. :rotfl:

£20 for two hours once a week. Seems fair. I wouldn't want someone who I'd gouged on minimum wage in trust of my home.
