Mobileshop cashback problems

Howdy, I have been really happy with Mobileshop (4/4 cashbacks arrived for the first contract; the first two cashbacks arrived for the second contract). But since mid-April, there seems to be a complete freeze due to 'technical problems'. I cannot get an answer out of them and keep getting offered Homebase vouchers instead of the cashback. That would not be the end of the world, but I would much prefer to get the cash. How to go about it? I am sure other people have threatened with small courts - did you get somewhere? Many thanks for all your advice,

Fred

I had the same problem. In the end I accepted the Argos voucher which arrived within a week!

I had the same problem. I repeatedly threatened them with legal action, and told them how it was suspicious that they could offer Argos vouchers immediately, but couldn't offer cashback immediately. Surprise surprise, I got paid in less than 24 hours. :)
  • I'd advise anyone offered the vouchers at this minute with MobileShop to take them and run...don't wait and persist on your cash

Im sure they'll trade out of this difficult period they're going through as they've been one of the best online mobile retailers over the past 10 years.

I can't agree. The bad stink they have caused over the last 9 to 10 months means that fewer new customers are going to use them(I have advised several friends myself and they have passed the message on) as well as who knows how many peeeed off existing customers vowing never to take out a contract wth them ever again. They will never be trusted again unless they can proves that their excuses are true which of course they aren't.

I don't agree either. If you want these vouchers, fine, but if you want your cash, then stick with it.
In simple terms, both parties have to agree to T&C's. If us as customers fail to abide we face financial implications, and so do MS.
My advice would be to "nip in the bud" any late payments ASAP after the deadline date, give a final payment date and take action if necessary - but don't threaten if you don't intend to take action.
If MS break T&C's they will lose any court actions taken against them, if they are daft enough to contest them.
I think they will only "trade out" if they restore customer confidence and get back to what they were - a reliable company.

  • I agree that if customers have received a bad experience then they shouldn't use MobileShop.com again - I certainly wouldn't, but thats entirely up to each individual customer not for me to just say to everybody don't use Mobile Shop - i think it needs to be judged by the individual and based on their experience / case.

For those who want to persist with getting their cash all i was referring to was it would be much quicker and much less hassle to say yes to the vouchers as you will no doubt get them within 24/48 hours. You could be waiting forever to get your cash otherwise... and if the business did go into administration then you'll get little to nothing.

I personally would just say yes to vouchers, cut my losses, never use MobileShop again and let my friends know about my experience with them... but that's just me.

There's a very long thread about this going at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=253911.

I (and many others) have posted advice there as to what we have done to get out CB.

Basically as soon as you kick up a stink via the complaints form you'll get paid - just done this myself. Just be firm that you're not accepting vouchers and you'll take them to court via moneyclaim direct. I doubt it;s a cashflow problem personally, more likely they make more by offering Argos vouchers.
