Yep, red cross as the others say. I borrowed one last year from them, when my son broke his ankle and couldnt use crutches.
I wasnt asked for anything other than a donation. i gave £20 and kept it for 6 weeks.0 -
Lions or Round Table.Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

Another vote for Red Cross here.
However, if a wheelchair might be needed again in the foreseeable future, it might be worth buying a simple 'transfer' chair. Ours cost around £50 online, complete with carrying bag, and has been well worth buying.0 -
I got my daughter a wheelchair on loan last year when on hols from red cross. I gave them a donation later when we returned it. She got her wheelchair from social services for free which we use when we go some distance0

My mum has recently had a major operation, and therefore has lost the use of one leg. She will shortly be discharged from hospital. I am trying to find a wheel chair to loan. Mum is registered disabled, and currently can only hop using cruches.
Her condition will improve so we do not need to buy a wheelchair, but is there any places where I can get one on loan for free or a nominal fee. I live in london.
I have tried our local social service and the Occupational Therapist in the hospital, but as mums condition is temp and she can hop, she is unable to loan one.
any ideas strongly welcome
Your mum wants to borrow a wheelchair not loan one.
Try the Red Cross0 -
Nothing much to add to some other good advice but I went around in circles for 2 days last week doing the same thing with many agencies giving poor advice or not knowing. My partner had brain surgery a couple of weeks ago and needs help to mobilise.
The Red Cross is good, but they do not offer this service in Gtr London anymore.
Shopmobility costs £5 to register, free for 2 weeks, then £10 for each subsequent week. I'd previously thought that it was just a service for whilst you are shopping :P
Best wishes,
Dee
