My registered disabled mum needs to loan a wheel chair, any ideas where to go?

hello all,
My mum has recently had a major operation, and therefore has lost the use of one leg. She will shortly be discharged from hospital. I am trying to find a wheel chair to loan. Mum is registered disabled, and currently can only hop using cruches.
Her condition will improve so we do not need to buy a wheelchair, but is there any places where I can get one on loan for free or a nominal fee. I live in london.
I have tried our local social service and the Occupational Therapist in the hospital, but as mums condition is temp and she can hop, she is unable to loan one.
any ideas strongly welcome

I don't know if I read on here once that the Red Cross loaned wheelchairs. I may have invented that completely.
Possibly a local church may know of one that is available.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -

You can rent wheelchairs from the Red Cross0

Red Cross do indeed lend out wheelchairs.
Round our way in York I borrowed one for a weekend and was only asked for a £20 deposit, which is normally refunded but they do ask for a donation for their funds.
I would think that most people just leave the deposit for the funds as a donation.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Years ago, before I had my own wheelchair, I loaned on from the red cross for a week. There was a refundable deposit of £20 even then, so that hasn't increased in at least 10 years!. They did ask for a donation and I just let them keep the deposit.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0

I know my local Disability Advice Bureau offer mobility equipment hire.0

Red Cross definately do, we loaned one last year for our holiday in Florida.
I think we left a cheque as a security with them, if memory serves me right the charge was very reasonable.

Do you have a nearby branch of Shopmobility? As well as lending out scooters and wheelchairs while out shopping, in areas where we've used them, they can do longer term lending of wheelchairs.0

you can buy them for around £150 now0
