This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

It's a bit overcast again and could even be a little cooler ... or that could just be us having every window in the house wide open all night!

Off to a car boot sale and will report back later if I find any wonderful bargains.

Well wishes to all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

Good Morning folks ,well its a bit cloudy this morning but still warm.I slept a little better last night even managed to get under the duvet for a change ,(first time this week because of the heat :):):))
Eldest DD is coming this morning for her usual coffee and natter. My lovely son-in-law Simon arrived yesterday and put my new table together for me and I am really pleased with the result.Later I will go to youngest DDs for dinner and play with the boys.
Another week has flown by and soon it will be holiday time again so out from the glory hole (aka cupboard under the stairs ) will come kites ,cricket bats picnic stuff, cool boxes and rolled up chairs to go in the car as essentials for holidays along with cards ,scrabble and board games.:j
With four grandsons going on holiday (this year only three, as one is staying at home and going with his pals to a pop festival) to keep amused we always take lots of bits as entertainment for when its wet.
Good job I have a large boot,, as all the cases and bits go in there, and I usually have to fold the back seats flat and everything gets packed in, and I will have one small boy in the front with me. The dogs and hampsters in their cage and the other two boys will go in Mum and Dads car.
We trek off on convoy to Southampton to catch the ferry to the IoW. Once there and installed at the holiday house DD and I go to the supermarket and get fresh bits (we also take a big box of staples collected over the previous few weeks)Then its back to the house unload and pack away and then we start our holiday.
This is our yearly ritual and the kids love it.They get to pick what bedrooms they want, and we all enjoy a fortnight, doing really quite an OS holiday. We don't spend a fortune (Dd hasn't got that much to spare anyway)but its a lovely family time, and DD gets to play with her lads (she works full time ) and I too get a nice rest.

When we go onto the beach I am installed with the food ,a sun brolly and thermos and the kids go off and play or go 'crabbing'I am quite happy with my book or knitting just sitting and enjoying watching the kids lark around on the beach.
Probably boring to a lot of people but to me this is what family life is about.

My eldest DD is off to Zante on Tuesday for a fortnight with her OH,her two children are grown up and have their own holiday plans. She will have a good time with her OH and they enjoy wining and dining out and good luck to them they both work hard and the rest will do them both good.
I look forward every year to my fortnights break and I think even if you can only get away for a couple of days it does you good.
When my two were small and we had very little money we had to have days out to the seaside and humping all the paraphanalia around was hard work, but even a nice day out can refresh you I think
Just the change of scenery is good for you.
What sort of holidays do the rest of you enjoy I wonder .
Well time I went to put the kettle on for a cuppa and some breakfast, toasted sesame bagels for me today from the freezer
Have a good day everyone what ever you are doing
    Cheers JackieO xxx

    Morning all,

Beautiful day here again, got the bedding in the wm, will strip the spare bed and give that a good wash after, its not dirty as such, but could do with an airing.

Jackie O your hols sound fab, with me I am unable to sit on a beach etc for more than 1/2 an hour I like to be exploring the area, waking, visiting any historic attractions and meeting the locals, going to markets etc.Luckily my OH and dd are the same, we probably wont be able to afford a break this year, but will have a few days out.

Dropping dd at work this morning, and then home to do a quick whip round with the hoover etc. Wont spend too long on housework as its too hot :D

Yesterday I bought 4 beautiful lavander plants, so want to get then planted up today, the smell from them is lovely.

Will go and see my dad later on.

Not sure whats for dinner, will go and look. Also need to run to the shop as we have run out of leaf tea, which is a complete disaster :D

    Have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

Yesterday was lovely, warm with a slight breeze - perfect :D Mr tru wanted to go out again but I couldn't face it, I needed a day at home. He suggested Bourton for today but I can't face that either, good weather + Bourton on a sunday = far, far too many people :D

Miss tru didn't come home last night, just had a text from her "Sorry, I'll be back in a bit. We fell asleep watching Waterworld". I've seen that film so completely understand, no further explanation is necessary :rotfl:

We picked broad beans and turnips yesterday. We couldn't fit them all in the freezer so gave some to my dad, he loves his veg. There were a couple of ripe chillies, they look so small and innocent til you slice them open and your eyes start burning :D Mr tru loves his hot food, but this was a bit much :D We buy our seeds and plug plants from HERE. Mr tru goes through all the info, then chooses the hottest ones, lol.

    Goodmorning all.

Yesterday rather cloud - we went to an antiques fair in the morning, but came home at lunch time as I was feeling tired. I did few bits in the afternoon, but in the evening I started to feel really dizzy and sick. I spent most of the evening either throwing up ( sorry too much information) or trying to doze.

I feel a bit better this morning so I'm going to take it easy today. Fortunately the eBay sales are lower this week, only about 8 parcels to do up, rather than the almost 20 I've had the last couple of weeks.

We have chicken for lunch. Hopefully I'll feel like eating by then, after yesterday I feel a bit wary of food.

It's rather cloudy, but not cold.

    Have a good day all

    Morning all!
Well, DS came home before 11 last night stone cold sober with a pizza in hand, phew!
Redruby, I'm like you on holiday, like to be somewhere with something to see or explore and chatty locals, I get bored and agitated sitting in the sun doing nothing!
Waiting for news from New Zealand after this mornings earthquake, mums brother and his family live in the Wellington area and she is trying to get through on the phone to check on them.
Much duller and cool this morning so far, todays plans include cleaning the barbeque, oh joy that's the worst bit!
Better get a move on, still not dressed! Have a good day all!
    RIP Iain

    Morning everyone :j

I have been planning our summer holiday too. We don't have a car at the moment and even if we did I can't drive :rotfl:so I've just bought a family railcard with £10 off thanks to the Daily Mail offer earlier in the year.:money:
So far and weather dependent we shall be going to Exeter for shopping and museum, Plymouth for ice skating and the aquarium and Bristol Zoo. I've also planned some cheaper or free things too including swimming, park and beach. Mind you, when you add on the cost of an ice cream, bus fare etc, it's not quite as cheap as it was :D. My DD12 gets terribly travel sick though so we will be carrying lots of spare clothes and a few plastic bags, yuk! We've tried lots of different things to try and help her but hopefully she won't be too bad on the train.

I shall be taking Ethel, my trusty wally trolley and pack enough food and drink for the days out. My girls are just the right age to be totally embarrassed by me pulling her along but I don't care, it saves my arms being pulled out of their sockets.:rotfl::rotfl:

We are just having a quiet day at home today, chicken salad for lunch and some of the cake I finally got round to making. It looks nice so hopefully it will taste good too.

Hope everyone has the chance to enjoy what's left of your weekend.
    Cheers m'dears x

    Morning All
an infrequent visitor these days, but like the proverbial bad penny i keep turning up from time to time!
have enjoyed the last couple of weeks - real summer weather, but I'm happy if it decides to be just a tad cooler!
Those who remember me will know DH had a bout of bowel cancer towards the end of last year - after all the chemo etc he is now "clear" with no checkup due until next June!
My turn now... nasty bit in my stomach but as i recently developed a blood clot in my lung, no surgery can be done for a few months whilst I am on blood thinners...Hopefully seeing oncologist to start chemo very shortly, op later when it's all shrunk....Interesting times!
have not had much energy or incentive to do much lately and really need to get "back on the OS wagon" once more. Not that I'm spending wildly - just not really concentrating on best value etc.
Need to tackle our garage this week - it's become a real dumping ground and the pathway to the washing machine and freezer is definitely narrower than it used to be!
Will try to check in here a bit more often again as you lot are always inspiring!
JackieO your holiday sounds just what I remember a family holiday should be - hope you have a great time when you go.
    take care Everyone!

    Think twice before spending anything!

Beemuzed - lovely to "see" you, but sorry to hear of your health issues. Hopefully it'll all work out well in the end.:o

Happy belated Birthday to Jools' DS and Molly's DD - apologies for being late, didn't post yesterday as I was somewhat preoccupied as the 'puter decided it didn'y like my accounts spreadsheet anymore, and trashed it.:( And trashed the backup.:(:( Luckily I do a monthly "belt'n'braces" backup, so only had to reconstruct transactions since 21st June, which was time-consuming, but not 'orribly difficult, as I keep all dockets til they're on the 2nd backup.;)

I'd better not let Mr LW see your post - he'd have a nervous breakdown!:D He's a total and utter tea-monster, and only likes leaf tea.:o

Uurrgh! Falling asleep is the only way to get through Waterworld, imho.:D

First time in over a week, we're not having salad for dins! As it's a tad cooler, we're having pasta in cheese sauce (at Mr LW's request).;)

I think Sassy's glad of the respite from the oppressive heat too, bless her.:o
