Primark sell pack of 30 hair bobbles with no metal bit for just £1, these are what I use and I don't suffer any breakages (and I'm very bad for sleeping with my hair tied up!)

Or could you just poke your hair through the hole in the hat, rather than use a bobble?

You'll also find these in Poundworld and similar £1 shops.

Are you tying your hair back when it's still wet? You shouldn't ever do that as the hair breaks. If you have no option then tie it loosely.

I have long, very fine fair hair, which would break easily given half a chance. Mine is nearly waist-length at the moment, and in fairly good condition.

The trick is, I think, to mess about with it as little as possible - no colour, no perms, no hair-drying, no hairsrpay or other "products". Just wash with gentle shampoo, condition intensively, don't brush or tie back when wet, and never use hair bands etc with metal bits to bite at your hair.

Thanks so much for all the suggestions everyone!

The L'Oreal stuff was reccomended to me by a friend, I have been using it for almost 2 weeks now & I find it isn't as hard to wash out of my hair.

It is so fine that any breakages are really noticeable! I've also stopped using my hairdryer after washing (it dries in like 10 minutes anyway, always has done)

I'll have a look at those bobbles properly later, they look good! I hardly ever use straighteners (maybe once a month when I go out) and never tie it back wet.

I have been using one of those brushes that's got the air holes in it (round cylinder type) but I do also have a wide toothed one I might go back to that as I heard brushed with more teeth on can make your hair break more?

I've never had this trouble in my life until about March time (I also started running then and have been washing my hair more i'm thinking this has also contributed).

My work uniform also changed at the start of the year and the hat was way too big (only 1 size available unfortunately) so I used to wear it really tight but have now loosened it and you can't really tell that much.

Thanks for all the suggestions all, keep them coming!

How about changing your brush for a Tangle-Teezer?

I've got the original one, you can buy them in Boots.

My hair is a nightmare of tangles when wet but this works better than a normal brush.

Was originally on Dragon's Den some years ago but didn't get any investment.

This is expensive but is fabulous:

Philip Kingsley produces some great products for problem hair and scalp conditions... I can't recommend this brand enough.

You don't need much... and it works for me so it is worth it.

If you can, if pays to go for the larger pots as they work out much better value per ml.

I'm with Tiddlywinks - Elastiscizer it the best thing I have ever used.

Yes, it is expensive - but you dont need much, and (for me at least) it works.
