CCJ Showing on Credit File

Hi all,

Just checked my noddle credit report and there is a CCJ showing as "Active" on my account from 2010. I had absolutely no idea about this.

I got into some stupid debt at uni etc but eventually signed a protected trust deed in October 2010 which is due to finish next month (yay!). Before this I was paying small amounts to each debt each month. I was under the impression that all my defaults would drop off in 2016ish now but is it the same with CCJs?

Also - is there any way I can find out what this relates to? There is a case number and an amount but that amount doesn't match up to anything on my report as outstanding. I don't know the CCJ process really but surely I'd have been aware of this?

Other thing I'm thinking is that if I've been asked on any forms if I've had any CCJs against me I've said no - which may now be a lie?

Just to add - it doesn't appear on Experian or Equifax.

Call the court and ask. The ccj will show w which court it was logged by.

It may even belong to someone else - if it doesn't appear on Equifax or experian then call credit might have mismatched it with your file?

Easiest way to find out is ask the court to confirm the date of birth they have on file for the defendant. If its not yours ask the court to confirm in writing the details are f Tue defendant and send a copy to call credit pointing out they have mismatched the data to your file and must expunge it.

If it is yours however then once the trust deed is discharged send proof of this to the court who recorded the ccj asking they mark it as satisfied.

It will drop off your file six years from the date the judgement was made, irrespective whether it is settled or when it was settled.

It's not a lie if you genuinely didn't know you had a CCJ when you applied for things, but you may now need to tell those companies about the CCJ. It would be dishonest not to inform them now that you have become aware of it.

Before you do anything though, you should make sure it hasn't been placed on your file in error.

You should be able to get details of the CCJ here: http://www.trustonline.org.uk/search-yourself/ (there's a small fee)

The court may be able to shed some light too.

CCJ will drop off your credit report in 2016, but it will remain active until paid.

If you moved address without letting creditors know, then any correspondence that was sent to you regarding the court proceedings wouldn't have gotten to you, which could explain why you know nothing about it. If you haven't moved, then I have no idea why.

  • Have the same thing I have a court order from Bromley court but I live in herts. It doesn't say a company or nothing? Would it be impossible to obtain any credit with a ccj on my file?

Not impossible, but a lot more difficult.

Chances of getting decent credit are pretty much non-existent, but you could probably get some sub-prime credit. How old is the CCJ?

It'll drop off your report in 2 years then. Do you think the CCJ is on your report in error? If so, you should try and get it removed.

I'm really not sure tbh, have had problems in the past but have been debt free for few years now and have been desperate to get my credit rating higher as buying my first home is my next step for me. But what I do know is I haven't received any letters regarding this unless they've gone to a previous address but have lived at my current one for almost 7 years.

    Thanks for reply

It might be a good idea to try and get some information about it. You can get details of the CCJ by doing a search here. It costs a small fee.

The reason I say this is that even though the CCJ drops off your credit report in two years, it can still be enforced after this date, so you don't want the creditor to take you back to court.

If the CCJ shows as satisfied then there's no need to do anything.

If you placed a correct address on file with the credit check company expect a debt collector calling to to collect the CCJ now they have you correct details.
If it is your CCJ and you did not receive papers you can apply to have it set aside.
    Be happy...;)

Thanks I just done it for my mums address and it came for there. Doesn't say who or what just says £600 unsatisfied for Bromley Court? Bit worried now tbh
