£5 per day is reasonable for a few days. £150 per month for a few months is not reasonable, especially with a spare phone with a local sim.
Common sense dictates that you would make use of the unlimited nature by connecting every few days - not daily! A spare payg SIM is fine if you can find one (proof of address being the most prevelant) and on the times I did this I still lost out with credit not all being used up before you depart.0 -
One last point, if the phone is locked to Three would they unlock it for me, as I will not be using any of my substantial allowances in the UK at all but will be still be paying for them.0

I don't understand though why on earth would they agree to convert a long expensive pay monthly contract with a phone to a cheap one-month sim-only contract.0 -
Given that the original poster has a Spanish Lebara SIM, their data deal http://www.lebara.es/passes/internet (click the Union Jack for English ) looks just the job !
Get the "3" phone unlocked and swap the SIMs.
If the Spanish phone won't accept the "3" SIM because it is locked buy a £10 phone from Carphone Warehouse.
The cost of the "3" contract is partially phone finance and probably a lost cause to attempt to reclaim.0 -
I'm in Spain at the moment and using a local SIM in my unlocked phone...
Speed isn't fantastic but the calling..texting rates are quite good0 -

Nor me, but the OP didn't say that they had a "long expensive pay monthly contract" and even if they did have, it would cost nowt to ask if three would defer it.0
