What to do with old sofas?

Looking to replace our sofas with some m&s ones new, but not sure what to do with old ones

Would be nice to get something for them
Would m&s removal guys move them out for us and into the garage in the meantime?

You could always give them to one of the many charities which pick up household goods or advertise them on freecycle.

Stuck my old sofas on ebay. Didn't get much for them but meant someone came to the house and took them away and I got a few beer vouchers!

As for the m&s garage thing, surely just ask m&s?

loads of local selling sites popping up on facebook , someone will come and get them and you`ll get a few quid

For info , i dont think charitys like sofas etc for fire reg reasons

Do they have the fire reg stickers / labels on them?

If so, charities will accept them; if not, they won't.

I *think* you're not supposed to sell them either if no labels? (I could be wrong for a private sale).

So, have a check, and then decide whether you want to sell or give them away. If give them away to charity, and they're in decent condition, your local council may well have a furniture store, or google British Heart Foundation or a charity called Besom. There are likely to be others local to you, too.

PLEASE, if the sofas don't have the fire-safety labels, just get rid of them. I am old enough to remember the deaths caused by the toxic fumes that the non-compliant furniture used to give off in a fire; they caused many more deaths than the fire itself and that's why the new regs were introduced.

Seeing as how that was the point of the thread and doing that simple thing renders the thread meaningless I hereby declare this thread to be a waste of bandwidth. :D

We've just had a new suite from Harveys, and were warned that the delivery men would not move our old suite out, we had to do that in advance (bribery wouldn't work). We did, and offered it to a local charity but they couldn't collect for two weeks and at that point we didn't know that the good weather would last so long! So we used our annual free rubbish collection from the council.

I stripped mine down to the frame and then sawed it into stove-sized bits and put it on the woodpile. (very MSE). The rest then fitted into the boot to go to the tip.

On an estate in my area, the chavs and Eastern Europeans abandon a range of items including sofas, stained mattresses, broken wardrobes and shopping trolleys in the street in the hope that the furniture fairies come and take them away.
