Cancelling Sky - 31 Days notice from 11.5 Months?

Hiya, I'm approaching the end of a 12 month contract with Sky - I've used the online chat to ask what date I can give my 31 days notice and have been told 03/08/13 (12 months to the day of activation)
Surely this would mean the contract is 13 months? I was expecting to be able to give my 31 days notice 31 days (or later) before the 12 months were up.
It seems it may be the case that because I'm nearer the end of the 12 months than 31 days, I now have to wait until the 3rd August to cancel? Or does anyone know if the online 'help' was wrong and I can just offer my 31 days notice now and pay for the 16 days.
Thanks!

You can give Sky its required “at least” 31 days notice of cancellation from 40 days before your minimum term is due to expire. (But you can’t nominate a date for it be terminated that would precede the expiry of your minimum term.)
In other words, you can give Sky 40 days notice of cancellation 40 days before your minimum [STRIKE]sentence[/STRIKE] term is is due to expire.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

However it must end on an exact date of the month - in my case 8th August (12 months), 8th September (13 months) and so on? For example I cannot give notice for it to be cancelled at 12 months and 19 days?0

Your expectation set out in Post #1 was correct. What you were told by Sky (from India) was incorrect.
On 3 July 2013 you should have given Sky 31 days notice of cancellation to take effect from 3 August 2013.
(In point of fact, on any day between 24 June and 3 July you could have given Sky notice to terminate your contract on 3 August – Sky allows you to give up to 40 days notice.)
With every day that has passed since 3 July 2013, the earliest date upon which you can cancel your contract (by giving 31 days notice) has advanced by one day.
Today is Saturday, 20 July. If you give Sky its 31 days notice today, your contract will be cancelled on Tuesday, 20 August and your services will cease.
If anyone at Sky tells you otherwise, they are lying and you should file a written complaint about it. It's fraudulent.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance

The 12 month subscription ends exactly 12 months after the date of activation. You can request termination / cancellation to be scheduled on any date thereafter.
You are required to give 30 days notice (i.e. - "at least" 30 days notice), so you will okay giving notice on 03-Sep for the service(s) to be terminated from 12-Oct.0 -

Dan-Dan,
If your Sky TV was activated on 12 October 2012, you can, on any date between 3 and 12 September 2013, give Sky notice to terminate your contract on 12 October 2013.
You will, of course, have to pay for your Sky TV services until those cease on 12 October. So, do not cancel your Direct Debit until the final settlement has been completed.
Under the terms of your contract, you are required to pay Sky in advance, not in arrears.
The precise sums payable, and on what date(s), will depend upon the day of the month upon which you normally pay your subscription.dumpallhere wrote: »The 12 month subscription ends exactly 12 months after the date of activation. dumpallhere,
It isn’t a “12 month subscription”; it’s a rolling one-month contract with a minimum term of 12 months. After twelve months, the minimum term expires but the contract continues indefinitely (and you remain liable for it) until it is cancelled and terminated.
You’re required to give Sky “at least 31 days notice” of cancellation – not 30.
In practice, Sky allows you to give up to 40 days notice to cancel.Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance
