MSE News: Heatwave leaves sweltering shoppers struggling with fan shortage

Bought a desk fan from Tesco a couple of months ago for about £3 as they were selling off a pile of them, was practically laughed at by the assistant. Now I'm feeling a little smug (and very cool)0

I have two fan heaters packed away, which will blow air just fine
I'm sure that some people don't know about this. I have an old fan that works fine, but when I needed a second fan for another room, I just grabbed a fan heater from the attic and put it on the "blow only" setting - this turns off the heating element. Most modern fan heaters can do this, even the cheap ones.
It might not be as strong as a desk fan, and it may not oscillate, but I didn't have to spend any extra money to stay cool. :cool:0 -
I bought mine last year from Tesco, this was after it was warm too, i was melting in my room, even felt sick and dizzy with the heat. Wasnt a nice feeling at all. So it's been here out in my room all year, now it's warm it comes in handy when opening the window doesnt seem to be helping :-)
Seen two fans chucked away in a skip last year, tower fans too!. Worth a luck if you can find a skip!_Jen_0 -

Tesco last year reduced the fans massively...we got a huge tower fan for £2 from more than £20 I think. Feeling smug this summer...it went in the loft straight after we bought it and was dug out the other week.0 -
I agree with those suggesting to buy items "out of season".
I buy my winter cycling gear in the spring, and my summer gear in late autumn. Similarly, barbecue coals at the end of the year, snow shovels as the daffodils come out, rain gear during a heatwave, and summer lightweights during the blizzards.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

And sledges which always sold out when it snows;)0 -

Just buy a fan HEATER (but one that lets you turn the heating element off) and run it on its cold setting.0

Just bought an AM05 Hot+Cool from dysoncentre.com for £359 - pretty good price I thought considering the blaggers on ebay at the moment. Shop around, they're out there if you look hard enough.0
