Flight to Istanbul

Hope I am in the right forum. Back in June my husband and I had booked 2 flights to Istanbul from Antayla airport. This was for the 4/6/13 and returning on 7/6/13. Unfortunately, this was when there was rioting etc., in the city and we looked on the BBc website and they mentioned that the Foreign Office has said that only travel to Istanbul if it was absolutely necessary. We decided as we did not know the city and the hotel we were staying in was situated close to the trouble we would not go. On our return to the UK I got in touch with our insurance company who said for us to ask for a refund from Pegasus Airlines. I have emailed them a number of times with no joy and rang them the other day to be told that they could only refund the taxes which amounted to £20. Their argument was that the flight took off and it was up to us whether we chose to get on our not. Can someone tell me if this is correct. It wasn't a huge amount of money but I hate to be ripped off. Thank you.

you should get back in touch with the insurance company and advise them what you received back from the airline and advise you wish to claim the difference through your policy

Lots of issues here, it was simply a disinclination to travel on your part, so I very much doubt the insurers will cough up but more importantly the flight operated as planned, had nothing whatsoever to do with the EU anywhere, so there is no claim under EU261 either. There is no ripping off....
