Good idea about blending it at the end. I think I will try some soups. Paprika goes well in soups especially with chilli.

A 'courgette' I picked yesterday was 12" long and 3" across. they grow so fast.

We are growing the round "tondo" ones this year and I swear they grow even faster than the straight ones. One day they are like golf balls and one or two days later they seem to be bigger than tennis balls.

Had them stuffed with a cooked rice, herbs, and feta mix with grated cheese on top and baked which was yummy and very filling.

, I've never let them go that far, in line with general advice to pick when small.

It's a pointless comment from me actually, if they do lose flavour when bigger, well, I'd never be able to tell.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

I have to watch mine like a hawk. I can't turn my back on them for 5 minutes! lol
  • I had 15 today; and have given a load away but still...

I am roasting some tonight and putting some in with the swede which incidentally was also huge...I have no carrots and can't justify buying any with this much veg in the house.

You can also pickle courgettes; I have an amazing recipe I use from here:

I use it for cukes and gherkins as well; picked 10 cukes today so they will be pickled at the same time as the courgettes.

The problem is that they outpaced my ability to consume them. And some friends visited and gave me a present from their garden of new potatoes and ... courgettes, which made matters worse. I only have one plant but it is going wild, which is perhaps not unconnected to the fact that it is planted in newly dug soil above an old septic tank and drain field. All the veg are doing brilliantly. Where there's muck there's ... tasty veg. The huge pile of home produced compost thrown on the beds will have helped.

I don't like courgettes unless sweated down and lightly browned in a little olive oil for 15 minutes, and size does not seem to impact taste. You are of course correct that they should really be picked young if you eat them raw, or lightly cooked.

Courgettes are of course merely marrows picked when young, so strictly speaking the large ones are marrows.

Like others I love growing them but am less fond of eating them. Slicing them lengthways fairly thinly and brushing or spraying them with olive oil then BBQ-ing them or griddling them is good - especially with a squeeze of lemon. Or grate with some garlic, lemon, black pepper and crab.or tuna mixed in is pretty good - I added a couple of home grown tomatoes too which gave an added depth. But, I am overwhelmed with them too and so today took a load into work. Guess making others happy is also a good part of the growing process - I get tn feel clever for growing them and they can eat them!

My dad had the same problem a few years ago, every time I went round there I came home with a bag full! he couldn't give them away quick enough. He hasn't grown them since lol

The best use I found for them was cake :)

    Ingredients
    200g butter
200g caster sugar (I used granulated)
    2 eggs
    2 small courgettes (peeled)
    1 apple (peeled)
    200g plain flour
    pinch of salt
    1/2 tsp baking powder
pinch cinnamon ( I used a lot more)
    60g pecans ( I didn’t use these)
    80g sultanas
    *************
    Method
    Preheat oven 180/gas 4.
    Grease and line tin.
    Cream butter and sugar.
    Add beaten eggs.
Grate courgette and apple. Squeeze water out. Add to mix.
Add flour, salt, BP,cinnamon. Fold into mix.
    Add nuts and fruit.
    Bake about an hour.

I made this yesterday and it was absolutely delishhhhh!
    THANKS!
