Don't feel guilty!
I go to visit my mum, dad, aunt, nan, grandad, cousin and great uncles graves and it costs me a small fortune each time I visit....if I find the cheaper bunches of flowers then I buy them. I know they would all just be happy that someone has visited and my conscience is very clear and so should yours be too!My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being, hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.-Erma Bombeck-~ Member of the MSE Celebdaq Minileague ~0 -
My dad was a very 'green' person, ahead of his time I suppose. He was also a great one for recycling as many of his generation were. I took flowers from the garden to his funeral and I suspect some of the family thought I was mean but they looked OK on his cardboard coffin, again his choice.
I wouldn't ever think of buying flowers now. If there aren't any growing then I don't take them. That's what he would like.
I think it's just so nice that you want to go and today you were lucky!Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......

I think you're quite right about taking flowers from the garden, whether it was your garden or his, they're much more personal. I used to take flowers and shrubby bits from their garden to put on their grave but the house has been let now, so I can't, which is a shame.
I bet your Dad had a tin with pieces of string saved from years of parcels and that sort of thing.
Hope you won't be offended, but you've got the same name as one of my dogs, which makes you special in my book

Not offended at all. Looby-loo is the name of my pet too - not my name although it's what my mum calls all small girls so I suppose it's in my subconsciousness!

Yesterday was my dad's first birthday since he passed away last October. He was cremated so there is no grave.
I bought some (reduced
) sweet pea plants, as they were his favourite flower, and planted them in a trough, which is now in a sunny spot in our back garden.
He was a great one for watching the pennies, and I am sure he approves.
However you choose to remember your loved ones, it really is the thought that counts.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
