Hi,
Yesterday morning I was sat stationary in the left hand lane at a roundabout, indicating left when all of a sudden a car went into the back of me and sent me my motorbike flying.
As I got up, a male driver and female passenger got out of the car. The female started saying "What was you doing overtaking on the left for?". I saw red, not only had they knocked me off my bike, they were now accusing me of being at fault! I replied "How dare you try and accuse me. I was sat here stationary waiting for the artic to pass on the roundabout" At this point her husband (the driver) calmed his wife down and said it wasnt my fault. After that they were both very apologetic.
As the man helped pick my bike up and move it to the side of the road, his wife drove their vehicle to the other side of the roundabout to clear the road. They then wrote down their details:
Name, Address, Telephone number. I asked them to write down their reg number and the man went over the road and shouted it out to his wife.
My bikes knackerd. Had to recovered to garage and its going to cost £1100 to repair. As the adrenalin wore off, I started to ache in my leg, groin and lower back where I must have twisted as I was thrown off my bike. Went to minor injuries and was told ive pulled the muscles.
Anyway, we phoned the couple last night to advise of the estimate to repair the bike and they have gone down the route of trying to blame it on me again. Stating I undercut them on the left hand side and then pulled in front of him as he was about to pull away from the roundabout. Absolutely ridiculous story and left me feeling quite angry that my integrity is being questioned. They gave their insurance company and policy number and said to do it that way.
Contacted my insurance last night and reported eveything. Received a call back this morning that the policy number they gave me is incorrect. Also the vehicle reg they wrote down, the policy goes down to an address 80 miles away and the driver is not shown as being on the policy. Appears they wrote the wrong reg down as they live 6 miles away from me. Only positive thing is that we spoke to them on the landline number they gave to us.
Insurance company have said it is ok for us to try and make contact and gain correct reg and policy details.
After that long winded post, my question is...... Now its become and injury RTC, should I report this to the Police, even though it happened over 24 hours ago?

Sorry to hear you were involved in an accident. I'd always 100% report something like this to the police! Whether it was 24 hours ago + or not.
Good luck with it all0 -
Yes immediately.
You should also inform them you have been given false details and let the police deal with it by providing them with the contact number you have.Be happy...;)0 -
"whoop whoop" it's the sound of the police you should be calling. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0
-
Is there any reason why you didn't report it following your visit to the minor injuries?
Technically you have committed the offence of failing to report it. But there would be no action taken.
What do you want the police to do?
They'll record it and file it, so you won't get an investigation.
If you haven't got witness details I'd get back and look for cctv unless you think your insurance company will fight it.
What evidence can you provide to prove your version and disprove theirs?0 -
Why didn't you write down their reg plate?
Any witnesses?
Any CCTV in the area?0 -
Yes, report it. They're building a whole world of potential trouble for themselves by giving false details and that needs to be on record, especially if they're trying to shift the blame. Show hat they lied about details and it makes it far more likely a civil court will believe they're lying about what happened0

Police wont give a rats @r$e. Liability is purely a civil matter and the police have nothing to do with it and have no training in it.
The bit about your insurers contact sounds very odd though. Are they insured with the same company as you? Where did the 80 miles away bit come from? What the TPI told your insurers or what your insurers got back from the DVLA?
If they live 6 miles away, go and get the reg number yourself. Your insurers can then check with the MID database and pull back who the insurer was at the time of the accident and the policy number and then contact their insurers.0 -
Sounds like the guy has gone home and it's been "nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag".... "oh, ok dear i'll blame the biker".
From the woman's point of view, your probably a "queue jumper" and deserve to die.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

False details?
Move like someone wrote the wrong number down in error.
Who gives false details and a correct phone number?0 -
