There aren't any beaches near Manchester though, that's the point! Llandudno's about 1.5 hours drive and is where we go (I live in South Manchester) if we want a day out at the seaside. One of my favorites too but i wouldnt really think of saying Llandudno when someone i asking for beaches around Mankchester . Just my thoughts like
Nearer places - Blackpool (dirty and other disadvantages), Southport (can't even get to the sea as it is so far out), New Brighton (dirty and not really a great beach). These would all take over an hour to get to, you might as well drive the extra few minutes and get to a real beach with clean water.0 -

I agree, I live in Lytham St Annes (which has a huge and very nice sandy beach) but if we want a day at the seaside we go to Llandudno.0 -
I am also intrigued by someone looking for beaches near Manchester, it is slap bang in the middle of the country, therefore, no beaches. The nearest ones are The Fylde Coast, i.e Blackpool, Southport etc. Not particulary nice beaches (or the sea isn't that nice, too much effluence)0

Thank you everyone for your advices. As many have already mentioned, I know there aren't many beaches, and none, near Manchester but what I was trying to ask was to list some natural places, good beaches that are worth checking out using Manchester as starting point. I didn't want to have names of places that were like in Bristol or at top edge of Scotland. I want to see the closest beauties first and then go further;so if the closest nice place you can find to Manchester is 100 miles away, it's fine as long as it's something worth checking out.
I have search some of the places you've suggested and they are very nice from the pics, definitely in my list

I don't think you need to worry about the sea not being nice in Southport - you'll not see it unless you're into hikingThere will always be:
A “LIE” in BELIEVE, an “OVER” in LOVER, an “END” in FRIEND, an “US” in TRUST , and an “IF” in LIFE
