Top closest beaches or natural attractions near Manchester

Hello everyone

I hope all of you are enjoying this good weather and really hope it stays likes this for the coming months :D

The only beach side I've seen is Blackpool and it's not really ideal as a beach.
Can someone advise some good beaches near Manchester? I have searched for some and found some that seem very interesting but they aren't close so if anyone, by experience knows of anything.

In addition, I was also looking for natural attractions and things like lake district etc. really intrigued me. However I'll prefer if there are similar places with great views and less need to walk around(as the weather doesn't really permit it).

so if anyone is aware of any good natural attraction near Manchester, please share your knowledge.

Thank you

  • I'd definately recommend southport. We live about 10 miles north of Manchester and it takes about the same amount of time to get to as Blackpool. If you want to paddle in the sea its no good as the tide is always very far out but if its just sitting on the sand you want it's ideal.

the Peak District in nearer to Manchester than the Lake District

A drive to Buxton via Macclesfield would give you some lovely views without having to walk and you could stop at The Cat and Fiddle for a drink and to take in the views.

Beach - if you want a non-commercialised beach try Formby http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/formby/

or if you want a bit of life but not as much as Blackpool what about Southport?

lake district and formby are two places that I definitely visit, but there's so much to see and enjoy by walk that I want to do it when I have time to actually explorer properly.

Southport doesn't seem to have a clean sea, having a puddle when on the beach isn't it a bad idea, so something cleaner maybe? it shouldn't be a beach.

I know I'm stretching here but I'll ask anyway; do you guys know places similar to the one seen in the movies (where there are these cliffs, sometime waterfalls and the water is not that deep that you can swim in it) I don't know what these places are called or whether they have a name or not but do we have something like this?

Stay away from the places they use in the movies . King Kong and Tarzan are often there. Or the dinosaurs from Jurassic Park , unless your famous you will be first dead. Try Ainsdale Beach for decent sand but crappy sea. For places of Natural Outstanding Beauty try Anfield. Peaks are nice and close worth a day out . There inst really a get deep quick "decent" place to swim in the sea .

    What about Martin Mere ?
It's natural and not a lot of walking.

Natural attractions, head to Peak District and the various caves. Speedwell cavern in Castleton, where you can do a boat trip through the caves, Blue John cavern, also in Castelton, Poole's cavern in Buxton, or the Heights of Abraham where you do a cable car ride up the cliffs as well as visiting caves.
