I can only imagine the incredibly pointless argument he had about it - when someone tried the same when I worked in retail I just refused to sell them anything and had them escorted out of the shop.
Idiots are everywhere, unfortunately0 -
Lots of people need to fill large Jerry cans on a regular basis. I need to do so to get fuel for my microlight.
I just went round all the independent stations near me till I found one who was happy to oblige.
We're not all selfish gits y'know!0 -
Why not go the whole hog. Fit a 50 gallon drum to the rear of your car, then you can fill that and flog it to your neighbours.
Drive off without paying to maximise profits.

You sod! You made me spit my coffee everywhere!
OP; get a life! Tesco may be doing you a big favour here! It's got nothing to do with the promotion, it's all to do with safety... YOUR SAFETY!
No doubt you are one of those people first on the forecourt at the slightest hint of a fuel shortage!PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
What about people filling drums for use on race circuits and motocross? As well as lawnmowers, rotivators and the other plethora of petrol driven garden equipment; generators both residential and commercial; and the pp above with his micro light.
I won't put supermarket fuel in my vehicles as a general rule but this is just another reason I would avoid Tesco specifically.
Saying that on Wednesday this week I drove past the tesco petrol station in chesterfield and saw one of their cashiers from the station shop stood outside near night kiosk on her mobile. It just irritates me when you get some garages who scream the place down if they even think someone is using a phone!0 -
Aren't these 5p off fuel offers usually limited to 100 litres - which would be a fill of a car, plus 1 or 2 jerry cans anyway?0

I think you will find most petrol stations only allow 2 5 litre containers or 2 large metal containers

Well my car has what i consider to be a big tank - 70 litres so that would give you 30 litres to play with. 6 small cans or a mix of big/small.
Still a lot of juice to have sloshing about for the money saved. What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -
There are no hard and fast rules for filling containers at petrol stations. From the HSE website:-
"Petrol filling stations may have their own internal policy on the types and numbers of containers they are prepared to fill - frequently one or two 5 litre plastic and/or one or two 10 litre metal. This is a decision made by the filling station operator and is not a legal requirement.
Petrol filling stations usually have to abide by a licence condition to allow only 'suitable' containers to be filled. This is usually interpreted as metal containers up to a maximum size of 23 litres or plastic containers up to a maximum size of 5 litres. A licence condition has the same effect as a legal requirement. The licence condition does not limit how many containers one customer may fill."
So it's down to the station operator. I've filled 4 23 litre Jerry cans full of petrol before now to take to the airfield with no problem. I was not breaking the law0 -
Go after midnight when the station is unmanned and use pay-at-pump?
Also do this so you can save on even more petrol!0 -
The lengths some people will go to to save a few pence is amazing. I bet you use your tea bags five times each!0
