The bus is well worth the ticket. You can go on and off as much as you like. My favourite thing to do in york is york minster. The ticket is valid for a year so you can go in and out as much as you like. So much to see and learn about the tours are so interesting and vary depending on which guide you get and when you go of course as the minster is a work in progress.

I am a 64 year old female, and I love the Railway Museum. It's massive, carriages as well as engines, and it's FREE.

I went to the railway museum on a hot day once and it was extremely uncomfortable in there. I love trains though so i too would recommend. Still no 1 for me in the minster and much cooler too so better for a hot day.

Theres lots to do in York. The Castle Museum is good, also Cliffords Tower. You could go on a boat trip down the Ouse from from Lendal bridge or to Jorvik or the dig, theres also a Chocolate experience which I want to go to and the Dungeon which I am planning to take DD1 to shortly as well as the minster and ghost walks. I love York, its one of my favourite places and I'm lucky because I get to go there fairly frequently.

Can anyone recommend a reasonable priced hotel in York city centre?

Try the York website. Hotels actually in York are pretty expensive but price is all relative really.
A B&B on the outskirts is far more reasonable, on a bus route of course.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.
  • There are several Premier Inns in or just outside York. Depending when you are going, you may be able to get a really good value Premier Saver deal. I have always found this chain of hotels to be good value and clean/comfortable. Breakfasts are plentiful too.

If you are driving, the Premier Inns in the centre charge for parking and/or have limited parking though. You may prefer one just outside York where parking is free and the rates are also usually a bit lower. There is one very close to a park and ride facility I think.
    Hope that helps.
