Baby steriliser

Have you considered breastfeeding? It means you won't need to bother with sterilizing. Dd was breastfed and I had a small microwave sterilizer for expressed milk.
Just to add, I think how you feed your baby is your choice, but I thought I'd put it out there as an option. I have two children, one bf and one ff (using the Cold water and Milton method), so I've done both. Bf was easier in terms of not having t faff around with cleaning bottles etc.
I did buy an electric sterilizer, but it broke within a week of having it, plus they take up loads space on the worktops, whereas a microwave sterilized can be kept in the microwave out of the way.
Be warned though, that the tablets can bleach your clothes.0 -

Plus I just find the smell off a steriliser full of Milton is sooooo nice and refreshing on a really hot summer day - perhaps I'm the only freak who enjoys changing the steriliser water when it's hot and sticky and I get a few moments lingering over a cool bucket that smells like a swimming pool.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

I've used a cold water steriliser for all four of my children. I would say that if you do decide to cold water sterilise buy the Milton tablets rather than own brand cheaper ones. With Milton you don't need to rinse the bottles off with boiled water once sterilised unlike some cheaper brand tablets I tried with my first.0

Oh my gosh, isn't it heavenly! Our daughter is now 13 days old and in that time I haven't changed the steriliser once and I suspect it's for that reason! OH is such a steriliser hog, lol. I have a good whiff when putting the bottles in though...oomph! :rotfl::eek:0 -
I was reading on another thread that sterilising isn't even a requirement, provided you wash the bottles thouroughly with a good bottle brush that reaches all bits if the inside and allow them to dry naturally. Still though I would prefer just the 'security' of knowing I have sterilised them...apparently this was noted 20 years ago, but of course, the equipment can be big money.
The opinions given here are useful though, but if the cold sterilising smells of swimming pools, does that mean the bottles are in chlorine? And do we know what effect this can have I wonder? Mind you, all our parents would have used this method...0 -
we had a electric steriliser bought for us, worked a treat and didn't notice the bills go up much. The smell of milton makes me feel very illMummy's little miracle born 14th September 20120
