I have been using Salt of the Earth from Holland and Barrett for almost two years - the same initial stick! It worked well from the start and I then bought two more in the next buy one- get one for a penny promotion and at this rate of usage they will last me half a lifetime! I agree that they are somewhat challenged by this continual hot weather, but let's face it, for 99% of the time crystal works very effectively, doesn't mark your clothes and doesn't hurt the environment. Win win as far as I am concerned, and saves a fortune to boot.

I use salt of the earth too. I bought my BOGOF about three years ago and they are still going. Have to admit I use a more traditional one on days I teach or if I fly- days when adrenaline will run faster. Otherwise I have no issues with it
Wonder if they're marketed at festival-goers?

    HBS x

I took a more traditional deodorant too Glastonbury, figured I needed all the help I could get :rotfl:

(Actually I washed every day in a small bowl of hot water, my OH (who didnt go) assured me I didn't stink when i got home
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I know this is bringing up a thread from July however, thought I would ask the question here.

I recently changed from any normal deodorant/anti-perspirant to using Bionsen Deo. The product where you fill with water and spray - it's not an anti-perspirant, it's a deodorant where it literally removes any smell.

It's absolutely brilliant and as you can fill the bottle 5 times definitely worth the money. I used it on my and hubby's feet also (during the hot spell we had and worked an absolute treat).

However.... now I find I'm getting a rash under the arms and they're really itchy. Have been using this bottle for over a month now.

I do have sensitive skin, however, didn't receive a rash from other deodorants/antiperspirants and was everything started so well....

anyone else found this using this product? a huge shame as I really wanted to change to a product that doesn't use aluminum and not an aerosol :-(

i had to stop deo due to excess sweating. got prescribed driclor (can be bought in boots i think) and no sweats for like 3 days at a time.

did use Mitchum but it wouldnt last the full day. and one bottle of driclor can last years! so way cheaper!
  • I bought a PitRok stick about 7 weeks ago after looking for products that aren't animal tested, thought I might as well try it. I'm glad I did as its brilliant, your skin can still naturally breathe so it doesn't sweat as much as it would want to using a major brand deodorant.

    I feel fresher than normal

i use Mitchum but a friend of mine who is into more natural items uses a crystal deodorant but admits that it isnt as good in the heat or for days when you are harassed.

I dont sweat much so probably would be ok but find with Mitchum I very rarely sweat at all
  • Am I the only one that found pitrok made a dry itchy rash appear in my armpits, was disappointed as the concept is brilliant x
  • I tried using Perspirex and had really itchy underarms but Pitrok has been great for me.

Just wanted to pass on a money-saving tip for crystal deodorant users.

A cheaper alternative is shavers alum block which is potassium alum, so the same as many crystal deo's and equally effective as ammonium alum which some others are made from.

Looking at the prices of the branded crystal deodorants, they come out around £5 and upwards, per 100 g of product. Shavers alum blocks can also be in this price range for the high-end brands such as Osma bloc.

However, the bargain-priced alum blocks are to be found in your local Asian or Middle-Eastern supplies shop. My local shop has 70 g blocks for 30p. That's 43p per 100 g, so less than a tenth of the price of branded crystal deodorants!

I've been using it in place of mainstream anti-perspirants for some time now and find alum is super-effective at preventing odour. Just rub it around under the arms while still wet from the shower and dry off as usual.

Just need to store the block somewhere dry so that it doesn't dissolve :)
