Crystal deoderant users.

Anyone using Crystal stick deoderant? Have used it all year and so far have loved it but with this heat wave it is not really up to the job. Have had to change back to the normal roll on deoderant . Anyone else not really impressed, as this is really the time we need it to work!

I use the pitrok spray and crystal deodorants. I haven't had any issues all year.

  • I don't think I could use them, they're not an antiperspirant are they?

That's the whole point for me, I'm allergic to anti-persperant! I've never found the crystal deodorant any good if I'm honest. I'm currently using a body shop deodorant but I also like one called Bionsen. None of them are great in this heat though so I just have to wash and change my clothes more often. Careful selection of clothing is important but I am lucky to have a job where I don't have to be smart and can wear vest tops which gives good air flow under the arms! Also I am very lucky that I'm not a prolific sweater, even when I exercise!

That's the point. They don't stop you sweating (which let's face it we do for a reason) but they stop the oxidisation that causes the smell.

I also find that salt rock deodorants aren't really man enough for the job in the hot weather but I have had some success just with plain old bicarbonate of soda. Just rub a little bit under your arms. I've been using it for a while and have found it quite effective.

Thanks Buick. Had heard of the Bicarbonate one but not tried it. Will give it a go as I am really trying to keep to natural ingredients.

In terms of helping with any odour, I really liked the Body Shop's roll ons (aluminium free) sadly though they don't seem to sell them anymore.

In terms of preventing or greatly minimising sweat, Sure or Dove Maximum Protection deodorants are pretty much the best I've found. They do have parabens and all the other nasties but they also do work. Really well, and if you use them only under your arms they seem to last for months and months. You apply it once a day at first then drop to once every other day.

And failing all that, wash regularly, (its the bacteria on skin that smells bad, not the sweat itself) always carry wet-wipes, only wear clothes once before washing on hotter days and try to find the nearest shower once off the tube/bus/train!

Body Shop have stopped their deodorants. I got the last one in my local shop!

Are the Sure or Dove you mentioned aluminium free? I've never found aluminium free in those brands. I'd be interested if they are since aluminium (and its relative, potassium alum) is what I'm allergic to.
