Help with getting car insured?
Options
Hi all.
I got my first car in UK and its incredible how expensive the insurance is?
I have got EU license in October 2005, and this year January i swapped for UK ones. No points, no accidents.
Now i want to insure my car and i cant belive i get cheapest quote £1500+ ? The car cost half that ?
Its a 2001 VW passat 1.9TDI.
Can i somehow use the no claims that i have from abroad? (EU country). As i have ringed couple and they have sayd NO.
And so i put my no claims 0 and i think thats one of the reasons i get high premium?
Been living here over 3 years. I can manage about £1000 or less a year, but with £1500+ i have to sell the car.
Any good Advice please?
And the two 1500+ are to have some box installed, "normal" insurers start at £3000+

As it's a £700 car have you tried increasing the excess?0

Welcome to the UK. Price sounds about right- you have used all the comparison sites?0

What you have to remember is Britain is in the EU when it suits government and not when it suits us.Be happy...;)0

So far only moneysupermarket. Will have a go at other in the morning.
Will try raising excess.
In Estonia i payd for years insuranse (yes third party only) but still just about 100€.0 -
is this because you only appear to have had a licence since jan?
if it is then try getting quotes based on a uk licence held since 2005, pick the cheapest and ring to see if they will give cover once they know its mostly been EU. Broker might be worth trying too0 -
Try Tesco car insurance with the Clubcard discount (not the comparison site, just Tesco). I recently got a fresh quote with them and they ask where your no claims was earned, UK or EU.0

You dont say how old you are and if your in a high risk area, so no way of knowing if £1500 is overly expensive or not.
If you had full NCD then your premium will be around £525, which is still a little high for the type of car you have....so length of UK license would a big factor.
I guess your'll have to suck it up for a year or two."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -

Well once you get 1 years NCD then your premium should drop at least 30%. As said, go to a broker and see what they can get for you, say you have been quoted £1200 though"Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0
