Structural engineers report

Just looking for a bit of advice as I am a little confused.

I am in the process of a mortgage application and the bank has completed their valuation but before formally giving us the offer they have requested we obtain and send them a structural engineers survey.

We are doing this through a broker and they are unable to tell me why or if there is anything specific they want to see so i've been looking at some general surveys but i'm a tad confused.

Is a structural engineers survey the same as a structural survey ? I've done some quotes online to get an idea and i'm seeing stuff called structural inspection survey and structure only surveys. Are these all the same thing but with different names. Can I get it done by a chartered building surveyor or does it need to specifically be a chartered engineer ? Both have rather different qualifications which has further compounded by confusion while googling!

I'm going to phone the bank tomorrow to try and get a better idea of exactly what they are wanting but was just looking for some thoughts before I do, in case I am just being dumb.

    A structural engineer is not the same as a surveyor. He is far more specialised. Usually called in if there is evidence of movement, subsidence (cracks etc).

    You need to be clear which the lender wants, and why.

    There is something specific mentioned by the surveyor in the mortgage report & valuation and your broker should be asking the lender what it is and therefore why a SE Report is needed.
