in Water bills
We have just had a session with a sales rep from this firm and we are very concerned about the quality of our water supply now as a result.
Cancer was mentioned several times and that we could save over a £1000 per year if we get it installed.
The final gambit was that if we sign up right now we could earn £1000 off the installation costs.
The demo and product looked good but I am not sure.
Is there anyone with any knowledge of this firm and its products?

There are several companies with the word aquatech in their name. Do you have any more details? How do they propose that you could save £1000 p.a.? Do you even pay this much for water & wastewater services? Are you connected to the mains water supply (which company) or are you on a private supply ? The quality of public water supplies is highly regulated under a European Directive transposed into UK Regulations and is enforced by the Drinking Water Inspectorate. I doubt that there is a plausible threat of cancer from drinking mains water in the UK. What do they suggest is giving rise to the risk? You could save £1000 on the installation costs? Good grief, what are they selling that even costs £1000? I think you should remain sceptical!0

What product are you considering buying? It sounds as if you are extremely gullible and have been the victim of a very cynical rep.
'Sign now and get a massive discount' is a classic rep on commission ploy more commonly used by double glazing salesmen. It simply means tha the 'normal' price is quoted is heavily inflated.
And how would this product save you £1K per year? On what?No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Thank you macman and phsci for the comments.
The fim is called Aquatec and not Aquatech, my mistake.
The system is an American water purification set up.
The saving of £1000 was on the installation cost and not an annual saving if we signed now.
We are connected to mains water but it is in a hard water area, Bucks.
From the details we provied to her she claimed we could make the following savings per month:
£25 on gas/electricity.
£50 on making our appliances w/machine, boiler, kettles lasting longer.
£10 on clothes and linen lasting longer.
£21 on household cleaning and personal care products.
£106 pm …...£1272pa.........£12720 over 10 yrs
What concerned me most was the suggestion that the contaminants in the water was related to cancer. She said that the American inventor created this system because his wife suffered cancer and he thought it was down to the water supply. I asked her what type of cancer and she said it was breast cancer.
Was I taken in by it all? No, but my wife has been treated for cancer and was taken in by it all. I promised her that I would do research on the company and product and then make an informed decision. This is my first step.0 -
british water is one of the most regulated and safest in the world, there is no risk of cancer they are trying it on0

Get her to put that lot in writing.
Then send it to trading standards.
Do they also sell snake oil?0 -
So what they are selling is a water softener. Which will typically cost you £750 to £1K supplied and installed. And it won't save you more than maybe £100 per year.
Did the rep actually test your water for hardness to verify his outrageous claims for savings? Describing a water softener as a cancer preventitive is marketing of the most cynical kind.
I'd be interested to know what they quoted you in total for this softener?
Their website contains no technical info about what they actually supply, how it works, or is different to any other water softener?

As said above, UK drinking water is safe and putting filters and softeners in might make it taste slightly better or save a bit of limescale in your kettle or washing machine but you won't ever save £1000 as most of these products will either have replaceable filter units or if a softener will need regular topping up with salt so there will be an ongoing maintenance charge as well which is likely to cost somewhere like £20-50 a year.
You should report this bloke to trading standards as he is preying on the vulnerable, using scare tactics and making false claimsNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
If the discounted' price is £1K, then I shudder to think what the quoted 'standard' price is!
Do these guys also perchance sell magic convector heaters filled with kryptonite? They certainly seem to use the same sales tactics. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

Another vote for snake oil, same salesperson probably sells mattresses for £5000 and double glazing.
As has been said, our tap water is fine. The only tenuous link to cancer is from borehole water in close proximity to intensive farming where excessive amounts of nitrates are in the water table. However there are too many other other chemicals/habits in close proximity (DDT/Smoking etc) over the exposure period to be sure. A filter would do nothing anyway!Andrew Davies0
