Surely if you live on an island and you've had something delivered before then you'd know that the seller or company will have to charge you more to deliver? That's just common sence isn't it?
Well yeah, but you need to be telling your buyer that, not us! Unless they're a FTB then they must have come across this "problem" before so put the ball back in their court, apologise for your mistake in not realising it would be higher postage charges to off shore parts of the UK and basically say that they'll either have to pay it or the item is no longer for sale (or whatever excuse you choose to use).

What's a FTB? First time buyer!!!
And I've told them they'll either have to pay the extra or we'll not go through with the sale.
Was just looking for an ebay page that either said uk meant mainland uk or that the postage is just an estimate and that when given the address to send to the seller may find out that it costs more than the estimate.
BUT, surely they've come across this before? Maybe just trying to pressure me into sending at the mainland uk price! Surely even buying from anyone over the net (not just on ebay) they'd have encountered this problem? Oh, and their feedback is over 50 so they must have had a few items delivered already!0 -
hi
Why dont you sent it standard parcel under 11 quid but add extra for insurance, if needed

eh?? Isle of white....anglesay..... need I go on??? They dont seem to be discriminated against.
And royal mail (not parcel force) have the same price for the UK0 -

Thanks for the 11 quid suggestion, will look into that.
I don't understand the rest of your argument tho. I think you are accusing me of discriminating against them because they live on an island.
I am not the one who sets the price for delivery, it is parcelforce who are charging the extra.
And I am talking about a specific island. If you lived on that island and had something delivered then chances are by now that you'd have been charged extra. I don't get why you are talking about other islands, if you lived somewhere that cost extra to deliver to then you'd have realised by now, right?0 -
Whooops didn't mean to get you going.......I am looking it from the other side...buy something off ebay and they say oooooh you live THERE ...thats 10 quid extra.
I was looking at something the other day online.... 17.99 for postage,,,,,, how did it arrive to others ...... signed for !! Cost I would say around 2 quid mark. So am a bit sensitive in that area!!!!
My point is by using Royal Mail .....its the same price where ever. Parcelforce devides the country into three sections .... cant remember exactly them exactly.0 -

I understand where you are coming from, but remember it's not me who's said it cost extra, that's just how much extra parcelforce are trying to charge me. I'll look into the other method mentioned and see if I can get a better price.
I only charge what it costs for postage and packaging, I'm not one of those who make profit on p&p. Either way it doesn't really matter as people will just combine the two and judge from the total whether they are willing to pay. Of course it can make a difference to refunds and the fees that they pay but in general if the price is right then people will buy, if the total is too high regardless of whether it's a high bid price or high p&p they won't buy.0 -
i doubt you will get lower than Royal Mail, and standard parcel, link here

but if you do let us know! Then us in the wee bits at the edge of the mainland will pass the word around!!
If you intend on using a courier for other items in the future, it might be an idea to mention it so that potential buyers know to ask. I always do, otherwise I assume they use RM. (which is what your buyer did, no doubt).
I think there are plenty of buyers in the Isles, remember we dont have the same acces to 'things' as you townies do!!!:D So there is plenty of scope for sales
Good luck with your sale;)0 -

You are assuming that the buyer realised you had underquoted, look at it from the other point of view in that the buyer assumed your auction meant what it said when it quoted 'UK' postage. If your auction does not mean what it says then it is always best to point it out in big letters so there is no misunderstanding, and I think charging extra for being offshore, but still in the UK is a big enough 'extra' to warrant an explanation before people bid. Your buyer hasn't misunderstood at all, he knows he lives in the UK, so where's the confusion?
If you choose not to go ahead with the auction then you need to be very nice to your buyer as he will need to agree to do a mutual non payment otherwise you will lose your FVFs.
For future reference where you are opting for 'sellers standard postage' and not Royal Mail 1st/2nd etc it is possibly better to use the 'see auction details for cost' option. If you do that you can give quotes depending on which part of the UK the buyer lives in and then you won't have any problems at all.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Maybe it's just my mistake then, I thought that people realised that it cost extra to send to unusual locations. I also thought that in ebay's rules it said that shipping is only an estimate, to uk mainland and anyone living elsewhere should make contact to ask a price before bidding.
I also thought that my auctions said they were shipped via parcelforce, it appears that they don't anymore and the options don't seem to be there anymore to enable it.
Oh well, wish me luck and thanks for all your suggestions!0 -
Ok, so here's the latest!
I've tried the royal mail website and the cheapest it'll give me is the quote that I've already got for £28.50. I know that the web-site says that it includes uk apart from the channel islands but it won't give me a quote for this. All I can do is parcelforce by the looks of things. Unless there is some other reason why the cheaper standard parcels option isn't coming up? It says I can have it for £10.57 but when I put the postcode in that option is gone. Leaving the cheapest at £28.50.

Not sure if that link will work for you, if not try postcodes bn43 5hh to HS2 9PS so you can see what I can see.
Does this mean that the cheaper options are not available?0
