I would pay it in to your account, it is a deposit regardless of how it is made up, unless the terms of your account state they can't receive large coinage deposits.

I have a Nationwide account and they state you can only pay in 5 bags of coins on the windows by each of the cashiers. I personally think it's wrong particularly if you are going to pay it into your account.

If you bank with the Halifax/Bank of Scotland pay your bagged change in at the business counter, they have never refused multiple bags.

OH has a Nationwide account and he saves his change and then goes into the branch about every 6 months or so with at least 6-7 bags (to pay into his account) with no problems (other than the tutting of the people in the queue behind him :D) I've also taken bags of coins to my PO.

OP, I think it all depends on the branch/staff. But I think it's more likely that they'll take bags of coins at your own branch IYSWIM. I'd give them a call beforehand to check :)

Looking at responses it certainly seems to be that it is branch/staff dependent as various branches of the same bank/building society seem to have different "rules".

As this has dropped down OS, ive moved it to budgeting and bank accounts to see if you get some ideas over here

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. perhaps you could pay your coins into a child account (if you have one) and then just transfer the money? We do this when we fill up the coin jar and it works for us!

Whats wrong with just letting the child have the change rather than taking advantage of them?

Get rid of it - and, once for all, of this ridiculous hobby of collecting coins.

If you can't, as soon as you collected £5-£10 change the coins to a note from your purse and spend the coins in the first shop you visit.

Try going outside of peak hours, which are at lunch time between 12-2pm or the weekend.
