what to do with £100 in change??

Hello,
I have been saving all my change/pennies for a few months and I now have a small problem as I have over £100 in 50p 20p 10p 5p 2p 1p and don't know what to do with it?
I don’t want to take it to the local supermarket as the coin counter thing takes a % of the money and last time I tried to pay some into my bank it only let me pay in two bags.
so what would you do?

I'd try a different bank branch, if there's one within fairly easy reach: I've just paid £46-worth of change into my bank, so the rule on only accepting two bags of coins isn't a general one. Alternatively, can you take in two bags at a time over a few days until they're all paid in?Back after a very long break!0

Self service supermarket checkout till that you throw the coins in?
(Some have a hopper rather than a coin insert)0 -
Have you a local shop you are known at, I had over £110 and took it there, they counted it and exchanged for notes with no charge to me - they have to pay to get coins delivered so they were glad of the change

I'd also agree with trying a different branch. Ours will take any number provided you pay them into your account.
Failing that, and you don't need the full £100 to use immediately, then I'd do exactly what I Luv Cats said. We frequently chuck a load of small change in to pay for our small shops and see many others doing the same.

Many banks won't let you just walk in with bags of change and exchange it for cash, as it's extra hassle and cost for them, but your own bank really should let you deposit it all into your own account - it's your money and you are their customer after all! What if you really needed that money in your account, if that change was the only thing preventing you going into your overdraft? I'd refuse to pay the charges since you effectively tried to put money in your account!
Anyway, a bit OT there, that may not be the situation for you and the cashier will be able to tell anyway, since (s)he'll have your account details, but still, very annoying. You could try offering it at local shops etc, sometimes they're willing to take change, although high street shops will often have to have bank records etc for their change.
I've used the supermarket coin changing machine before and the % it kept didn't seem that much, especially since it was a shoebox full of change we took! Would that % be cheaper than you having to go to your bank several times, or carrying change round to different banks?

Some larger HSBC branches have coin deposit machines that don't take a cut.
I believe Natwest and Barclays do too, but I've not come across one.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I agree with the OP who said local shops.

Our Natwest does, but it gets paid directly into your current account so no use if you don't bank with them. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

My Barclays branch takes whatever I take in and I have cashed £300 before now.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
