*update* after reading up online and an email from CAB I rang npower again who have agreed to waiver the chargers on the capped meter until we are moved over to BG 9th Aug because I have been given misinformation, so after 3 phonecalls being told lots of different things they can in fact waive the charges just by making a note on the system. They will also be sending me written confirmation of waivered charges, Thank you for all your advice :)
So you are moving your gas to BG,dont be surprised if they bill you a standing charge. As previously said to avoid this you need to have the supply completely removed. What I cant understand is why you are not using gas to heat property and water as its cheaper than elec?

As above, British Gas will charge you a standing charge for the gas meter, and this is a contract you have entered into.
Check the comparison sites for your consumption, including a gas consumption of zero.
  • BG have said there will be no standing charge for my gas meter as I won't be using it and they will only be charging me for electric, I also recieved a letter from npower today confirming no charge for my gas supply.

Its a rented property so we're stuck with storage and imersion heaters. We also don't have ecomomy 7 so imagine in winter our bills will sky rocket woth the heaters, we're being billed £38 pm by BG which so far seems to be a little over what were using (been checking the meter) but will be giving monthly readings to avoid under payment in winter months.

Have you had the pack confirming the prices yet? As far as I was aware all new British Gas accounts have a standing charge.
BG Tariff page. At the risk of saying the agent was misselling you really need to check what tariff they have signed you up for.

You have seven days from recieving the pack to cancel the switch. If you don't it'll take another 2-3 weeks to switch, and then you need to stay with them for at least 4 weeks before the next switch can complete.

Storage heaters and no E7 is crazy - you'd be better with panel heaters, or even a fan heater that you have much more contorl over.
  • Rang BG this morning just to check about the gas as I hadn't recieved anything apart from electric and they haven't set up an account on the standard tarrif the said has no standing charge, luckily in my letter from npower it saus "we will remove all standing charges until you new supplier contacts us" BG gas want to put me on clear and simple which again has a standing charge so I gave Ebico a ring! Zero standing charge! BG is cheaper for my electric so will stay with them for that.

I think you're right about the storage heaters, I'll probably get a fan heater for the livig room and my sons bedroom, we've had an aircon fan on over this heatwave as the house is a hot box and it doesn't seem to of used as much as we thought.
  • It also appears I've lost the ability to spell!

must be a fast letter for npower
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
