To avoid the standing charge you have to have the complete gas supply removed. I'm sure you will be using gas going forward otherwise how are you going to heat water/house?

that's whys its called a duel fuel account
So they can impose a deemed dual fuel contract when the customer has not used and has no intention using one of the fuels ?

I had written confirmation from the agents that the gas is capped and a cert from an engineer saying the same, I rang Npower because there was a perivious bill in the property and noticed the gas standing charge which was something like 15p (stupidly I've binned it) so wanted to let them know that it was electric only, after explaining this to the lady she said "yes thats fine we will just send you out our sta dard tarrif", at no point did she mention the gas standing charge as part of the standard bill, and considering I'd notified them of the capped meter and said we would only need an electric tariff her resonse of "yes thats fine" implied that the tariff we would recieve would be electric only.

    Written confirmation you say?

Is the gas bill in your name? How did they get your name? Surely you wouldn't have registered for a gas account if you had written confirmation there was no gas supply to the property.

Oh well, just send the bill to the agents. You have written confirmation there is no gas supply so you can't expect to have to pay for it.
  • They have my name because I rang up to tell them we'd moved in and will only be using electric. I asked for and electric only bill, it was implied thats what I would be getting. I did not ask for a duel fuel account.
  • *update* after reading up online and an email from CAB I rang npower again who have agreed to waiver the chargers on the capped meter until we are moved over to BG 9th Aug because I have been given misinformation, so after 3 phonecalls being told lots of different things they can in fact waive the charges just by making a note on the system. They will also be sending me written confirmation of waivered charges, Thank you for all your advice :)

I think you are definitely getting into the realms of fantasy on this one.

You can't switch supplier if you don't even have a supply.
If you do have a supply, then the written confirmation from the agents was incorrect.

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

I switched supplier the day after I rang npower and got issued with an account number, I did have a supply in the form of a deemed contract (supposedly electric not duel which was the issue) I'm not sure why I'm in the realms of fantasy.

You have an issue, the gas and electric will be under the same account so a deemed contract is entered into.
    I call 'Rubbish!'

For a start, the legislation which provides for deemed contracts dates back to privatisation. Which was done separately for gas and electricity. Secondly, there is no legislative basis for a duel fuel account - it is a construct of the suppliers.

So you have a deemed contract for gas and another for electricity.
And the deeming for electricity starts when electricity is used and for gas, when gas is used.
You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'

all I say is goodluck, the standing charge is for the supply, or they will just wip it out and charge you to reconnect
