Hi All
Speaking as a relative Newbie
I can honestly say it was in my eagerness to 'contribute' that I failed initially to recognise the importance of the E: 01/10 & fb / TW / Rafflecopteretc in the title.
I like to think I'm 'broken in' :rotfl: now and have learned such a lot in a short space of time. (& still am)
My one contribution to this conversation would be ..... is it possible for the 'emotions' to be utilised for the notifying of the common 'offences' IE A little placard stating The end date format with a brief explanation.
Same for any other common problems!
This at least would bring uniformity & make it easier for all forumites to 'police' the threads (If you get my drift)
Pheww  done ...... going to return to comping now:happylove Those who bring sunshine into the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves. :happylove0 -
Humour + special needs = not my cuppa tea I'm afraid. Each to their own on a public forum I suppose.0

We do have a resource of piccys that can be used via the comping guide.
Sad to say that even using those may not spur some on for the edit, for whatever reason.I've tried many methods & most have failed :-)
Is there a gentler way to flag up that someone has made a mistake?
Sometimes, unfortunately, what is meant & what actually comes across, when communicating with just words, is very different. Things can be taken the wrong way & members can become upset. A quick message droped into a thread by someone trying to help but also trying to get on with entering their comps can (at times) appear abrupt & rude to the recipient.
With that in mind, Cheeky Chicken has made a few smilies which can be used for highlighting an issue in a more fun way. She has also said these are now public property & can be used whenever the need arises. Thanks Cheeky!
Examples of the gentle smilies:Useful when perhaps a newer comper decides they have to post a personal thank you message for each comp, as well as hitting the 'Thanks' button
Perhaps if someone is posting a few comps which are already on here & thereby creating a situation where other compers could get disqualified from the comp for entering more times that the T & C allows.
Let other compers know you've found a duplicate so they don't potentially enter it again and that you have sent a merge request to a Board Guide all in one easy step! Just don't forget that the thread will still need the URL of the Original thread so people can check to see if they have already entered.
This can be used to help show another comper there is a Comping Guide thread & that there are some useful hints & tips, especially to do with searching for comps which are already on MSE.
'Bumpers' can be really frustrating for other Compers, especially when they have pulled a very old thread back through to the front by adding a comment like 'Thanks!' or 'Entered this one!'
A very visible warning to other Compers so they hopefully look out for a naughty little tick box to opt out of marketing which may be hidden just out of view!
IMPORTANT:
End date format is vital to cluster the comps which end on a certain date together. To help us to politely let our fab comp posters know that their thread title needs to be corrected, Cheeky has made us all another smilie (which can also be used with the accompanying text if you want- simply copy & paste it all - don't forget to change the xxx to the OPs name):
Hi xxxx, please would you be able to add/amend the end date in your thread title so that it follows the forum rules for end dates, posted here again by diva. This will also make it much easier for other compers to find your comp when the end date is getting near - so more people can enter it! It will also make it a bit easier for our Board Guides, who have to find the ending ones to move them into Game Over. Thanks!
They can be used by either copying their location from the example above (right click & 'copy image location' & then click thedelete the 'http' already in the pop up box & paste the image location) or by going directly to the source where they are stored which is the Comping Signs at ImageShack. Some browsers will even allow you to drag & drop the smilies!

This was the very first comp I posted on here back in my newbie days... https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3630317
Note: I added an end date and even 'FB' I was one of the brighter newbies - not in the 'special needs class'!
I shall rephrase then 'I was one of the brighter newbies who used my initiative':p:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0 -

My DS is SEN, he couldn't post a comp in the correct format, he couldn't write your name legibly, but give him your laptop for the afternoon and he would empty your bank account, your Paypal account, and hack your FB & Twitter accounts and cause you all sorts of trouble xxI love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

If you're serious, and he's really good at finding holes and back doors, you might try pointing him at Bug Bounty programs, if he doesn't know about them already.
For example:

I am serious, he can hack anything, is no longer allowed to use computers in school, as he hacked into their system and wiped the whole years lessons, not just his own class but the whole school! He's only 10 so shan't be encouraging him just yet, give him a few years and I'll be asking him to hack me into the national lottery database so I can select the winning numbers:rotfl:I love this board, have "virtually" met so many lovely people, people I am honoured to count as friends.

I'm sorry, I know that it's annoying but I am just grateful someone took the time to post a competition that I would otherwise have not been aware of. I mean we all make mistakes when we join but it's how we learn.Starting afresh - comping as much as poss!
Hoping for: some beauty goods, clothes, amazon vouchers, anime, manga, wardrobe, fridge freezer, laptop, an ipad, vouchers for next, exercise goods, a uk break and a wee hol somewhere nice!
Wishing all a little luck:beer:0
