Tenancy Deposit Scheme

Hi,
I have recently taken up a tenancy with a lettings agent, who charge unbelievably high fees for everything, much to my annoyance! Anyway, they've put my deposit in the protection scheme, allegedly, and have now told me that when it comes to the end of the tenancy we will be charged an admin fee to recover the Deposit!! Can they do this?? The firm seem to be pretty quick to take money off us, but extremely slow at doing anything else. We pretty much had to do all the admin for them, chasing references, phonecalls etc and we are a little peeved that they will be taking more money when our tenancy ends.

What scheme did they put it in?

What does it say in your tenancy agreement about returning of the deposit?

Wait a month then see if it HAS been protected in one of the official schemes. If it hasn't, then they don't have a leg to stand on!

If it has, then unless they failed to notify you of these fees until AFTER you signed the contract and moved in, then nothing you can do.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

A better place for this thread would be on The House Buying, Renting & Selling Board.

Are they calling this check out fee? Best thing would be to speak to one of Shelter's advisors (I think they use a free phone line). I phoned them regarding my deposit and they were extremely helpful.
