That is a fair comment, that is madness. ofcourse the LL can identify his tenants.0 -
Airports in Muslim countries have separate queues and windows for women, where they are body searched and passports checked by female staff. At UK airports I think women can unveil in a separate room if requested; although most know that passport checks are a necessary part of travel, so it's not usually a big deal.
ID is usually part of the credit checking procedure for tenants, but I don't see why LLs should be doing the job of the Border Agency. And perhaps tenants would like to know that their LLs are here legitimately and paying taxes too? They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
That in itself is not a legal requirement. Neither is it a legal requirement to identify yourself during a search, incase a s.60 is in place.
Recent court ruling stated that the police have no right to demand ID of anyone taking part in a protest.
The right to privacy does exist, but you have to know about it.[F160AA Powers to require removal of disguisesE+W+S.(1)Where— .
(a)an authorisation under section 60 is for the time being in force in relation to any locality for any period, or .
(b)an authorisation under subsection (3) that the powers conferred by subsection (2) shall be exercisable at any place in a locality is in force for any period, .
those powers shall be exercisable at any place in that locality at any time in that period.
(2)This subsection confers power on any constable in uniform— .
(a)to require any person to remove any item which the constable reasonably believes that person is wearing wholly or mainly for the purpose of concealing his identity; .
(b)to seize any item which the constable reasonably believes any person intends to wear wholly or mainly for that purpose.

Better taking 2 minutes to check a tenants paperwork than spend years afterwards realising you might have been taken for a mug by an illegal immigrant (who you certainly wouldn't have taken in as a lodger if you'd realised they might not be entitled to be in Britain) and being upset that you just took their word for it that they were entitled to be here:(_pale_:wall::doh:and you think there's a very good chance they were lying to you and conned the tenancy of the room out of you.:o
Fair enough, I'd be perfectly happy to check in the reverse direction too (as I wouldn't want my money going to an illegal either).0 -
The burka. We are all in it together. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0

Against my initial reaction I made my last letting to a leader of a foreign, imported, religion. (My initial reaction due to being an enthusiatic anti-theist/member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster
- depending on my mood....)
The individual in question turned out, so far, to be a good tenant. Which foreign, imported, religion?? Oh, Christianity....
There's decent people & not decent people: You can't tell which sort they are by just checking their clothes, their (alleged) country of origin, their "race" (whatever that is) or their God (or none) or their skin colour... .... use your brains folks!!
Cheers!0 -
Ah...but checking a photo on an official document matches the person themselves helps to confirm whether they are or aren't the person who is entitled (or otherwise) to be in this country.
But...hey..don't mind me...I'm from a part of the country where I was suppressing a grin quickly when a woman I was chatting to referred to herself as a "local" in the same conversation in which she had told me she moved here in the 1980s. The quickly-suppressed grin on my part was down to "Yep...it does take a couple of generations here before you can call yourself a local"....and all my local friends grinned too when I told them....
I'd hazard a guess that a strange imported foreign religion counts as "local" by now since its been here for 2,000 years:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

No it has not, it arrived amongst the British peoples with the mission of Augustine in 597 AD, though there may ahve been isolated "Celtic" Christian groups in the century before that. So either your maths or your history is a bit dodgy. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Okays - make that 1600 years or so in Britain for said foreign religion.
'Twas true it were they missionaries wot brought it here...but its past that there "two generations" test by now and 'tis ours...(even by my mothers generations "four generations" test).0
