this is a lose-lose situation, either you pay full whack for the car and you're always thinking the inlaws are ripping you off, or you get it cheaper and they think you are ripping them off!
my dad felt the brunt of this when his dad died, he bought his old nova from the estate at an agreed value - then for years later apparently he ripped them all off because "he knows about these things and they were grieving" - which was nonsense as we'd done a load of work on the car and it wasn't really worth what was paid, but was a good learner car for my sister and me!
just sell it, get the money and then buy a new car if you really want/need one

The private reg is A19GCG ...
That reg may have been relevant to the owner but looks worthless to me.

The short answer is sell it and the plate and divide the proceeds. Everything else will come back to bite her.
If she really, really must drive around in her dead dads old car, get a WBAC, plus local auction quotes, that's how a proper executor would dispose of the assets. That car, laid up, not MOT'd or Taxed and probably needing a service will be around £2.5-£3k. It is not a forecourt fresh gem.

As above, get an accurate and fair valuation for probate, then decide what to do with the car.

It is difficult to let go of items when someone dies which means that you could end up paying too much. From what you have said the other relations are thinking practically while your wife is thinking emotionally so you are at a disadvantage. You are in a difficult position.

If you were looking from a practical point of view, I would want it taxed with an MOT before buying it. The MOT will not show everything that could be wrong but a start. If you decide not to buy the car it will still be of benefit when selling it. How long has it been since the car was last driven?

If you pay more that you believe it is worth it may cause resentment but if you buy the car and it has problems down the line you may feel you brought a kipper which may lead to arguments.

Is it the car your wife wants, the plate or both?

Has your wife driven the car for any length of time?
The MMT is a bit like Marmite - a love it or hate it thing! It takes quite a bit of getting used to it's peculiarities.
I own an MMT Yaris and just err on the side of liking the transmission, only just.
I would hate for your wife to buy the car with her heart, because it was her Dad's, and then regret it because she has difficulty with the transmission. I don't want that to sound sexist either!

Just the car but the Plate comes with it. A19 is the road that come into Teeside and his Initiatials were GCG

I presume you'll be paying 3400ish then, as a third should be hers anyway? so just 1700 to each sister? or 1666.66 to be exact.

OP has already figured that one out in post #9.
