Just had a look online and the normal Tesco instant mash is just 85% potato but the value one is 98% potato!

I love instant mash any type even value- I do not mind.
I have it most days of the week usually with spaghetti hoops or beans.if I feel extra hungry i might add a fishcake with cheese.I also like cheese and chopped tin tomatoes or brown sauce with cheese & tuna mayo!During winter or a sore throat day i have mashw ith my favourite soup poured over it.Im a terrible cook and this is the only thing i can make without burning myself to death.
    Love can tame the wildest
  • I used to hate smash in the 80's too!
I get aldi's own now for my DD as she loves mash, i never have any complaints from her & it's easy to make in a hurry.

There are a couple of chocolate cake recipes here that use mashed potato. Did have one from an ASDA magazine that I tried one Easter (can't find it at the moment) - it was very moist and no-one detected the potato :)

try mixing a can of sweetcorn, a packet of instant mash, spring onions, chilli and a little cream. Shape into little patties and dry fry (maybe just an incy bit of oil) Takes about 5 mins to make!

I eat all sorts of junk, but draw the line at instant mash - it's truly vile!

Yeah, but it's probably the 15% worth of stuff they've crammed into 2% that you have to worry about :)

I have to say, I expected to come into this thread to defend instant mash, but I find myself (oddly) going the other way...

As a student, I tried a whole host of different instant mash from value, all the way up to Smash, the good stuff...

I liked most of it tbh, but have to say that none of them really come close to propper mash in terms of taste or texture...For a quick, naughty, meal (smash mixed in with beans really is the best thing ever :)) it's fine, but I really couldn't use it in place of mash in a "real" meal...

No, no way at all. It took me ages to wean DH off his convenience food diet and although instant mash may be the lesser of some of the evils, I know if I bought some then the floodgates would open and he would be buying supernoodles and pot noodles and other associated yuk.
