Just realised I've done this scan on Firefox, does this make any difference?

No but save the file to you hard drive first rather than running it straight from the internet.

Download AdwCleaner from the link below & save it to your desktop.

    LINK
    Then,
    • Right click AdwCleaner.exe & choose "Run as administrator" to run it.
    • Click Delete.
    • Click OK to the prompt.
    • The tool will run & your computer will be rebooted automatically. A logfile will open after the restart.
    • Post the contents of the logfile with your next reply.
    • You can also find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[s1].txt.
  • Hi, done successfully

How are things running in general with the PC - not just the sites?

I'm going out for tea in a minute but will look in later.
  • My computer is slow at times, e-mails take ages to open, your last message took a while to open and strangely enough a box came up with a red cross on it saying the direction to the site wasn't working, that's a first, then suddenly this site appeared!

This dell inspiron is about 5 yrs old, the recording drive isn't working only playing discs etc.
I'm hoping to get my daughters other desk top, since she has gone up-market and got an IMac.

    I'm off to make tea.
    Catch up later.

Is that the norm, or is it out of character? It would probably benefit from a RAM upgrade, and Mcafee isn't the leanest.

    Inspiron 530?
  • Inspiron 530S

Slow starting up, and even slower opening emails. That has been happening for a couple of months but I've just got used to it and have been using my IPad, but I still like a desktop.

Don't really have lots on it, music, pics etc and no gaming.

You can run a Factory Restore...or would you prefer to update the OS to Windows 7?

If it's been happening for months, and isn't just a by-product of the ebay problems then that's ok in the sense of problems like that can be attributed to a malware infection. But, that said, the scans are clear and the slowness etc isn't nothing new so I'm more inclined to think your initial problems were related to the sites themselves and nothing on your computer - especially if it isn't happening now.
  • Thank you all, especially Waddler_8 who has been unfailingly helpful and patient.

I may do a factory restore on mine, when I get my daughters computer, which has very upto the minute features.
    Nothing lost really.
I hate no knowing what causes problems and will try to sort it out with the ever helpful members of this forum.

I know most techies won't uses McAfee/Norton etc as they say they are very bloated, but I've been quite happy with mine for years, on laptops and notebook as well as desktop.
Also some swear by I.E. and many use Firefox, but then they also have problems sometimes.
I do switch between browsers for various reasons.

    Anyway thanks again everyone.
