    soolin,
Sorry to be a pain but do you mean I should pay a paypal outstanding balance with my credit card? Sorry don't mean to be thick but just trying to get all the information needed before I go ahead.
    Thanks
Thanks for any help and advice given

  • what soolin is saying is that it's better to fund your payments with paypal, through a credit card.
that way, not only do you have protection from paypal in the form of what is known as the 'buyer protection policy' which is set at £500 for many items from many sellers, but you are also covered by most CC companies should something go wrong

greenstreetprince is correct...I meant that you should never keep a balance in your paypal acocunt (even I don't trust anyone enough to do me out of earning interest!) but instead register a credit card with them for payment. Then each and every item you buy you click on 'fund from card xxx' and pay via your card. It will treated just like any other online purchase with the added benefit that if your item fails to arrive and paypal can't recover funds you can fall back onto your credit card company and claim from them instead.

It must be a credit card though not a debit card.

  • That's a limited social circle you have there ;)

All you have to do is go looking for stories along the lines of 'Item was damaged / not as described and paypal sided with the seller!!!!!111'

Yeah, all 2 of them, against the 500 which went in the buyer's favour.

Are you related to Dave Brooker per chance, as he seems to make stuff up as he goes along too. :rotfl:

ouch, was that an invitation for Mr Brooker to bestow his unfounded knowledge upon this thread and steer it away from the OP's original query?

Please, let this remain a thread free of Daveisms....

Any dispute where the buyer fails to return an item as demanded / fails to supply 'valid' proof that the item is not as described will be decided in the seller's favour. Not hard to grasp, and not that rare, although probably less common than a decision in the favour of the buyer. Those are the obvious reasons, and there are less obvious ones too.

But, what am I saying? SC only deals in extremes, there is no 'grey area' if it contradicts what he's posting.

Seeing as I apparently have to back up every word I post these days, here are just a couple of examples I spotted.

just as a word of warning though. I have been using Paypal for a few years, mainly for buying and selling via ebay and have had no problems. However recently someone withdrew money from my paypal account for an item that I'd supposedly bought on ebay for £360!!. I only noticed it by accident. Paypal are now on the case but it might not be as secure as we think.

    all the best though
