Pay pal Question

Could you help please at the moment I use either cheque or postal order when I pay. What is pay pal like? Is it safe? Not sure from reading some of the other threads if I would be better just staying as I am.
Cheers Nicky

hi nicky,
i sell on ebay and have nearly 800fb in the last 9 months..
as a seller i prefer paypal payments for a number of reasons..
1, its fast (very fast)
so as a buyer if you use paypal you will recive your items a lot faster.
2, its just so easy, no messing about going to the bank or having to cash postal orders..
again as a buyer you will recive your item faster.
now the bigest problem with paypal ir them doing a "chargeback" normaly because the credit card used to pay me is stolen..
as a buyer this would not affect you in any way.. and infact protects you agains credit cart fraud..
APaying by paypal also protects the buyer against bad sellers, who do not send your item, or try to sell less than ideal items, loke damaged products or seconds described as new..
so you can file a complaint if something is wrong, and the seller does not sort out.
as a seller i get charged to recive paypal payments, but as a buyer you do not pay any extra..
if you use postal order then you have to pay the fees..
so all in all as a buyer paypal is..
FASTER
CHEAPER
SAEFER
hope this helps you.

Whilst some others may bandy around much paypal scaremongering, paypal is reasonably safe, and it's quick and easy and is much more commonly offered than cheque or PO (both of which also are open to fraud and it's harder for YOU to get your money back should there be a problem), so you'll find your purchasing ability increases.
If you are buying items you need to consider the seller, rather than the payment method.
Check that the seller seems to be reputable, has a history of selling the items they're selling (so they've not gone from selling the odd used to CD to 100 brand new computers), has used their account regularly, and everything seems to match (none of this "my ebay messages are broken - please use e-mail only" etc).
You will have to supply either your bank details or your credit card details. It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -

there's no problem with giving your bank details to paypal, your financial details are NEVER revealed to your sellers, and paypal is always accessed through encrypted web pages.
if you dont wish to give your bank details still, you could always fund your payments through a credit/debit card.
but you'd have to give them something otherwise they cant take the payments from you to pass on to the seller!0 -
From my own experiences, Paypal is the best thing since the invention of the wheel as a buyer, but avoid it like the plague as a seller otherwise you'll quickly end up out of pocket as Paypal always rule in the buyer's favour in the event of a dispute, whether warranted or not.

As a buyer I would not buy anything unless I can use paypal backed by a credit card.
Whilst that gives me almost total protection I would still caution using common sense to do the usual checks on the seller (feedback, previous sales history etc) before buying anything, however I pay.
Also, the ebay protection that is currently available for those who pay by cheque is being phased out. I don't recall the exact date but very soon unless you pay by paypal ebay will offer no protection at all.
NOTE: If someone has kept the link to the changes in ebay protection could they please post it..I can't find it at all.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. This isn't true, but I can't be bothered to go into it.

Found the link I wanted:
http://www2.ebay.com/aw/uk/200705081459002.html
The end of ebay protection supposedly from 'June' (no actual date) 2007
So to reiterate, unless you pay by paypal in future ebay will offer no protection at all for goods not received, or faulty goods.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Okay, well replace "always" with "99.999999999999999999999999999% of the time" instead then.
I think you either make most of your posts up Fay or you have pals at Paypal because you're the only person I know that's had Paypal rule in a seller's favour.

That's a limited social circle you have there
All you have to do is go looking for stories along the lines of 'Item was damaged / not as described and paypal sided with the seller!!!!!111'My TV is broken!
